Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

K, so adding to the parts list...

Here's some stuff that I need:
Black interior pieces from a Sedan (door panels, trim, pillar covers, headliner, sun visors, etc.)
Most of the rear interior panels from CRX, including the 3 storage compartments, lower 1/4 trim, trunk separator panel (looks like a seat back) and upper trunk cover panel, all black.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to do what I can to convert my interior to a CRX lol

Also, when I get around to taking the car off the road for the "final build" I've thought heavily about having it converted to 2-door... I know a shop that will do it. But I haven't actually decided for or against it yet... gonna be a last minute thing.

Meanwhile, I'm getting some noise-dampening expanding foam to fill the hollow parts... the pillars, etc.

How you going to do 2 door? Would they cut the car in half and weld it back togeather?

I always wanted to get a 4-door and do suicide doors in the rear and put some bucket seats in the rear but have them back-to-back with the front seat and have a console that runs from the front to the back...then install a flat panel tv angled in the back...and air bag it...that would be an awesome 4-door

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

2-Door conversion:

remove all four doors, remove B-pillars.
remove doors from donor car (Civic Hatch is closest), cut door jamb back far enough to fill in rear door section of sedan.

bolt donor doors onto sedan, measure up jamb section.

Remove rear jamb section from sedan, replace with jamb section from Hatch, being sure to tightly align with door, not body. (basically, "close" the door on it, then close the entire assembly and trim as necessary for proper fitment)

The only part I'm not sure about is which 1/4 glass to use, CRX or Hatch.

The Hatchie's bubbles more closely match the rear glass on the Sedan, so it will probably be that.

That's the jist of it, it's obviously alot harder than it seems.. but yeah.

it'll be a good year or so before I even decide on it... I just wanna do all the work at once, and not while I'm driving it... engine, trans, etc.

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

Just got the new steering wheel in... it's freakin tiny... either 300 or 320mm, so it feels kinda funny, but the hub is longer than stock, so it's closer to the driver, and being that small makes it more responsive to road "noise" (little bumps and such) especially being a manual steering model, so I love it.

I'll get the pics up as soon as I can.

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

Proline 16" alloys with 205/50 up front, 205/55 in the back.

Finally welded the flange on the header, but I have to cut the cat out and reposition it to make the header work, so that will be a weekend project.

Started work on a battery box that will replace the original intake resonator's position on the pass. side behind the front bumper.

Hammered/rolled the outer 1/4's on the rear for clearance with bigger tires.

Adjusted valves, still making noise, feeling that wear is taking it's toll with engine parts, and the ZC build may be closer than I thought, although the engine still feels tight, it's burning some oil, faint blue smoke at high-revs, also running rich still, not enough to really warrant chipping and tuning or MPFI swapping yet.

Mysteriously, I haven't been getting my avg. of 40+ MPG lately (last two tanks have been sub 40, more like 32 and 33, this one will probably be in the mid 30's... bad gas?) I've been moving alot of weight in the car lately too, so maybe that's it.

New(ish) tires have cut down on the tire noise, but alignment and suspension upgrades are still necessary in the long-run. Urethane bushings and 1" drop struts and springs (static drop) are in the plans.

Finally got tired of the rear bumper cover rubbing on bumps, from where it was banged into a wall (wife's first 5 speed/open road experience) so it was "forced" to stop (side torn off) and will be replaced with a modified bumper cover from a EG civic.

CRX rear cargo area panel installed temporarily, but the panel is old and worn, and needs to be fixed, plus, it's not the right color, and will need to be replaced.

I think that's all the updates for now. Pics coming soon.

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

Still no pics...

Got tired of the Si seats that were in the car... took them out, replaced them with crappy yellow racing seats from "Focuz" that I bought from a fellow enthusiast for 20 bux... they need reupholstered... but they're in there.

Fixed the mis-clocked angle on the header flange by using the bottom of a LS stock header to replace the lower section of the aftermarket header... coincidentally, it's a direct bolt-on... the shorter runners on the B18A1's lower section mean less low-end torque, but I'll get over it.

Still not installed, waiting for a couple things to build up on my list before I start working again.

I've put heavy thought into making tubular front UCA's and LCA's for our cars... and rear LCA's and TA's... I'll let you all know how that works out in the next year or so.

Still waiting on a good day that I have time to take pics.. with 3 jobs, it's kinda hard to find the time.

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

Bone Stock D15B2 currently installed...

Rebuilt 45k ago, complete rebuild, used same pistons, valves, etc.

Compression test with engine warmed up yielded the following results:

Cylinder 1: 175 PSI
Cylinder 2: 180 PSI
Cylinder 3: 160 PSI
Cylinder 4: 185 PSI

3 seems a lil weak, but I guess it's not too far out, and there are no obvious problems.

I have yet to find out about getting the other Civic, so I can park this one, and really start working on it... and now, I'm negotiating a full B16A2 swap, mounts, axles, linkage, ECU, conversion harness, and some accessories from a kid... If I get it, I'm pry never gonna use that damn ZC motor.

New issue, I"m thinking it's the secondary injector: When engine is cold, if I let it rev to 3250, in any gear, I get a sudden burst of power, almost like someone put Vtec in my car, didn't tell me, and set it to 3250.

It doesn't feel bad under that speed, just feels like it normally does, and around 4500, it starts dropping power, typical of DPFI engines, but when I get up to 3250, it "kicks" me in the ass a bit... and it's done it 2 or 3 times so bad that it actually chirped the tires in first gear... not floored.

Was just wondering what might be causing this, even though I'm not thoroughly worried about it... it only does it when it's cold, and once it warms up, it feels just as sluggish and gutless as it should.

Re: Pics of the new project *56K warning... go take a shower and shave or something...*

Still not getting more than 32 MPG either, new plugs, wires, have to change the oil soon, but I stopped getting 40+ almost a month ago... not sure why still... and it doesn't relate to that last post, b/c that's been going on since I put the DPFI manifold on the engine...

I just got 2qts of Xylol from my boss, might try putting some in when I fill the tank up again, maybe that will clean something out and find some lost power/MPG.
