Re: CEL Misfire

The coil pack can also be resistance tested, but it is not a perfect test finding every single bad coil.
0.3 to 1.0 ohms for primary
6.5k to 11.5k-ohms for secondary.

Three of the pins at wire connector go to each of the secondary paired plug wire connections. The pin closest to the middle plug wire connector is the positive and the other three pins, which are for the three pairs of plug wire connections, are the negatives of the primary circuits that you need to test.I also like to test every connection point, pin to see if it is grounded out to the base of the coil as that would keep a circuit from working.

Re: CEL Misfire

Thanks so much for the info. I reset the CEL again and drove til it came back on...good news and bad news. The good news is no more misfire codes The bad news is the predictable P1537 and P1538 came up, indicating the "butterflies" really are ceased because the vaccuums are working. Also got P0401 so I will yet again return to the parts store for the DPFE today since that's the last thing left there. I am assuming from wiswind's post of all the codes that I will need to take off the intake and clean these butterfly valves until they work. That may be a couple days because of a rain forecast. Thanks, will keep you updated!

Re: CEL Misfire

My 2003 Windstar was misfiring, jerking etc.....it was the ignition module that the plug wires plug into....it had a crack....the dealer fixed it and it runs great....I did not have a Check Engine light code....for those of us old enough, remember when the distributor cap had a crack....its the same thing, only now its electronic....

Re: CEL Misfire

Another closed case, finally! I changed the DPFE and worked the butterflies free and no more CEL. Going for inspection today. Wow, what a battle. Thanks to everyone on this forum, I did not give up and knew what my next move should be. If it weren't for everyone else's success, we may have become quite hopeless. Hope this testimony can be another of many to encourage others you can get to the bottom of multiple code problems! Special thanks to the person who posted about their 300,000 mile plus Windstar (can't remember where I saw it here) so I knew it was worth the investments!

Re: CEL Misfire

It may of been me your talking about with the 300k windstar, however I am in Canada so it is 320,000 km not miles.... about 200k miles

Glad your up and running again, if you have not done so yet you may want to put some Seafoam through both the gas tank and through the intake to clean some of the carcon away before you go for your test.
