Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Been a while i must appologise, work comes first.
A little update, used the dremel and some diamond burrs to
fit the engine parts together. looks a bit messy but its only the start
of a cool little R1 engine to use in scratch built specials. needs some
cleaning up of the putty and then some primer to see the imperfections
and get it ready for moulding as a single part.

Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Why mold it as a single part?! Don't you think there will be a loss of detail?

Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Thanks for the reply jano11 , I think because of the way i have had to make the engine in pieces
which takes a long time and a lot of trimming it would be best to make a mould to pour
the engine in one piece, the detail will still be there but i suppose it will be difficult to paint different parts of it,

At least then if anyone wants one it will be easy enough to make copies.

Small update, painted the engine to help see the imperfections,
and a few shots of possible scratch build projects.

Looks good! A bigger photo would give us the possibility to see your work better.

Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Made the pics bigger Jano11,

I am trying to make another engine as the first wasnt as good quality as I would like,
but the second engine I am working on is still not up to scratch,
I am thinking of drawing up the engine in my CAD program and machining it out of a few pieces
and then just glueing it together and then making a mould from there.

In the mean time, I am working on the wheels, here are a couple of ideas,
going for 13"x8" wheels with 205 45 tyres,

Machined 4 more wheels, that way I dont have to mould them,
Took 12 hours though, was a late night

Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Tried a little colour to see how the wheels will paint,
Clear red with a flat white undercoat.

I like the how you are making this one of a kind! I really want to see this build work out because of all you own scratch work you have done to make it look correct!

Re: WIP Zcars 1/24 scale yamaha R1 engine mini conversion

Thank you for the compliments Mark, I will try my best. The more I get into the build the easier it seems to get.
I have a few more parts to machine up and fabricate, gonna look at the front fuel tank and the R1 instrument panel soon,
maybe even a aluminium racing seat made from styrene.
