That is humour, isn't it.... ...given the pain I had unscrewing it when I wanted to...

Re: New problems

I called back and had the tech tell me exactly what he did and how he diagnosed the problem. They took out the sensor to see the camshaft interuptor on the cam gear (it was chipped off...1/2 gone). In order to fix it they have to pull the front end apart, and might as well replace the chain and gear while they are there. That makes more sense to me, got any feedback on that?

Re: New problems

That makes sense. If a few photos were taken during the operation...and a photo of the damaged sensor, that would be great for future reference.

Re: New problems

They are finishing right now and they did save the parts. I can take pictures, but I am not sure of how to post them.

Re: New problems

I got the cam gear, and boy was the interuptor chipped off and in bad shape. I tried to take some pictures in the house but I keep getting a glare when I snapped the picture. I will have to wait until the sun comes up and go outside to get a good shot of the gear.

They also replaced the chain, tensioner (sp.), and a craddle bolt that was almost ready to go, should of kept that too! I have to take her back in the morning to have them clear the codes. One of his techs left the computer connector in another customer's car.

Re: New problems

IF battery was disconnected, all codes are cleared already. Waitin for the pictures. YOur case comes as a definitive hint for those with high mileage 3.8 showing the symptoms you described.

Re: New problems

The CEL was off...and after the car warmed up, it came on again. Still reading 18, 31, and 41. I am going take it back on Monday morning.

Re: New problems

This is a Common problem with the 88-95 LN3, L67 and L27 Engines... And when you have to go in there its a good idea to replace the associated parts while you are there..

Re: New problems

I am still getting 18 and 31 codes intermittently (with an engine surging too). The shop I took it to has checked everything they can think of and the code goes off then on. They checked wires for connections and replaced cam sensor (again) and computer, but the codes still come back.

Where does the cam sensor get/give it's signals to, besides the computer? I am think it might be the throttle position sensor, but it is not coding as such.

I'd appreciate any feedback.
