how it's done
The engine is brush painted, as I don't have an airbrush, using Testor's sables of varying sizes. It would look much better had it been airbrushed, but you work with what you got.
The air cleaners are the worst spot, since I stupidly painted them first, and have been using them as a handle while doing the rest of the engine. It seems like Testor's chrome never dries completely and will show prints. They've been repainted twice. The distributors were the hardest. I used a knife to shave off the molded detail, then drilled holes for Detail Master grey ignition wire. I also drilled holes in the spark plug locations on the cylinder heads. I used reference photos to make the bundles of wires going to the right locations. The ties on the bundles are very thin strips of masking tape painted semi-gloss black. The entire engine got a thin black wash as well to give it some depth. Most of it will be hidden when it's actually placed in the car, so I'm taking pics now ![]() Sean
