Here's the scoop for anyone not updated on what happened:
This was in Boca Raton, Florida. There is a European car club that meets weekly just to shoot the breeze and have dinner at the local Hooters. Of course, anywhere that you gather a bunch of cars, there will be drive-byers who see it and want to try to show off or start a race. Generally the crowd that meets is not the racing type, so they all just ignore the roadside action and stick to their crowd (BTW, though it is a European car club, it is an open and friendly buch, and includes two Celicas, two Integras, a Mustang and two Lightnings...so there is no elitism in the group. Any nice car is admired). This night, genius-boy in his MR2 was being ignored. He made SEVERAL drive bys trying to get attention, and noone seemed to care. The guy with the camera decided to film him when he stopped in the middle of the road with his engine revving. When he let go, he spun his rears. Now this is a guess...but to most people on scene, he appeared to veer slightly into the oncoming lane with the intention of pulling a handbrake turn or something. Instead, he didn't get off the gas pedal, and either missed the e-brake or it was too loose to have an effect, and he hit the grass embankment where he lost traction. He hit his brakes by then, but was already sliding, and he went right between a post and another car, clocking the Jetta pretty hard. Of course, the whole club was berating him for his stupidity, and he just stood there with a confused but pebble-brained, mouth-breathing look on his face. Anyway, whether or not you like VWs is irrelevant. Just put your own car in that parking space, and imagine your feeling when that spunkbubble crashed into it. You can laugh at the stupidity of the Toyota driver, and laugh at the reactions and yelling of everyone on scene. But to laugh because you are happy someone had his car horribly damaged by some idiot kid, just because it is a particular brand, is just about as stupid as the MR2 driver. Here's to hoping that someday you will learn a harsh lesson for laughing at someone else's pain and suffering.

I dont like domestic vehicles, but that's for personal reasons, doesn't mean I act like (much of) an ass to people who pour the same ammount of blood, sweat, and tears into them. I'm starting a group here in my area that's open to anybody who works hard to put stuff on and in their ride (not any of the mommy and daddy bought cars)
Personally if that was anybody I knew or even my own car I'd be furious... but that MR2 guy is definately a dumb-ass. There used to be a good stretch of road that people used to street race on and the cops never bothered with them until one night a guy in a (no flaming me for saying this) mustang didn't know how to control his car and flipped. the guy had just rolled in there that night too... nobody even knew him and he said it was his 1st race. I would have stayed to see the action but I was already in my van runnin the opposite direction when I saw it go off of the road. |
