all i got to say to that is the drivers in those WS-6's must really really suck... if he can only run low 14's... the stock WS-6 can put down low 13's to high 12's with a decent driver.. most ppl should be able run the low 13's to mid 13's in one... i'm not saying that the engines that come with VTEC aren't good... slap a b18c1 or h22 into a 4th gen and you've got a beast of a car, but don't get the impression that if an engine doesn't have it that its shit, i'd love a b16, but i think i'd take a b18a/b over it... just my .02

gotta have that VTEC, well I hope that lil frankenstein you got there was put together the correct way, so it will last a while for you. When you going to show some pics of the car? you do know that since you don't have a 4th gen civic, you are still welcome here too, considering we are probably the most active group on AF

My best friend just got a 2002 Civic Si. I rode in it, and drove it, and that little ( 3000lbs ) car is pretty damn quick for being stock. The only thing that I dont like about it is that the weight of your foot makes the clutch go down. I think that it is because of it being a hydro tranny. All in all, it is quick. My friend chirps the tires in 2nd and 3rd gear. So, I am fairly impressed. Next month ( because the gay local drag srtip only has this " Club 1320 " every month ) him and I are racing against each other. I think that it will be a good race, considering I have no 4th gear and I told him I am leaving in my subs. Should be good. :flash:

Only the SiR had VTEC in the early '90's and if you think that VTEC is the be-all and end-all then you are seriously deluding yourself. While it's not a gimmick, there are a lot of non-VTEC cars that I know would take my car down in no time flat.

See my sig for a nice explanation of VTEC, it's pretty much damn well true!

Hi by the way

I don't think that it's that at all when i went to the auto show today it was the first time that I saw the new SI in person first off the shifter has got to go it's what me and my friends like to call (Misshift Heaven) but back to why i think it's so slow it's got a 2.0 I-Vtec but the RPM limit is like 6800 wtf is that has honda gone soft usually they don't have that low RPM limit it's usually like at the lowest 7500 and thats pushing low. Thats why i think the new Si's are slow.

How do lower revs make it slower? The new ITR makes as much or more power as the old one but at lower revs too.

I think you may need to read up on the concepts of how engines work before making comments. A big block motor will make more power through lower revs simply by having more capacity, a rotary likewise (swept volume) and a turbo simply forces more combustables into the chamber without needing to old-school VTEC/high RPM it.

The new f-ugly Civics are slow because they have had a massive lard injection... the same reason that the Aussie VTiR hatch (EK4 Japan built) is faster than a VTiR Coupe (US Built Si with RHD)... both have the same B16A motor and gearbox and running gear, but the Coupe is porkier.

REVS ain't everything and VTEC is bullshit as a be-all and end-all... it works for Honda, but other companys and build VTEC killers without resorting to variable valve technology.

Cheers

i don't really think u can say that VTEC is bullshit. no, its not some great thing that everyone needs, but it still can put u in ur seat. ride in a type r, or any other dohc vtec, an u can tell when it hits. its a good invention to be able to keep a small motor an still get great gas mileage, but at the same time, get some umph when u want it. an most companies use variable timing in their cars, they jus don't rely on it as a main point of making power.

lol - I have had my SiR for almost 3 years now... VTEC is a fad that riceboys cling to I swear. Wanky statements like "it has VTEC so it must be fast" piss me off. I'm sorry, but my viewpoint has been changed after driving in 5 liter Monaros and SS Commodores, not to mention R32s, Silvias, 180SXs etc. You can VTEC all you want, but when it comes down to it, you will never get the power upgrades you want compared to forced induction or big cc motors.

Like I said, I own a VTEC car... but it's a wank when you hear the bullshit that people sprout about how good it is...

"teh VTEC cannot lose"

damn you setanta!!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!!!! Able to drive Skylines, and silvias. I want to be able to drive them. Yea, i used to be high on VTECs until I realized that a non-VTEC can come up with the same amount of power. Im thinking about sort of doing like Signal did with one of their CRXs and take a VTEC motor, and kill the VTEC, then increase the displacement in it.

very very tru...setana u don't think i cling to my vtec do u? cuz i was simply saying that while no, it isn't anything near a turbo/forced induction, it is still a nice way to make power from a little motor stock. an i do agree that it is much nicer to have power the entire way, an not having to sit an "wait for vtec." jus need more money for a damn turbo
