Because they're funny on so many levels. Or at least they used to be...

I think they're up to season 11 now. I've seen every episode up to season 9 and a few of 10. The ones I've seen are very funny. I haven't seen the newer ones so I can't comment on the decline of humor.

On level of laughs. here is a more educated oriented one:

Homer and family walk into a Japanese restaraunt. In the background is Akira, one of the sushi chefs. He picks up the phone and apparently says, "Hi" a bunch of times. Actually he says, "Hi" then "Hai" a few times and then says "Hi" again when some one walks in. then he says "good bye" and hangs up. In Japanese, the word for yes is "hai." so he is really saying. "Hello... yes... yes... yes... hello.. yes... yes... goodbye." but it sounds like, "hi... hi.. hi... hi... hi..." If you know Japanese this little background joke is quite funny.

i thought the first couple seasons really sucked, i hate the old simpsons (with the different voices and the bad animation) the middle ones are the best, the new ones just seem like they're running out of ideas.... but still good!

Ahhhh, finally a subject I can relate too

Between Al Bundy, and Homer Simpson, you cover almost every married man in America (and probably elswhere). If you are married, have children, both shows are a must! It's the only way to keep your sanity daily.

I love the guests on the Simpsons. Aerosmith, Bette Midler, Johnny Carson, President Ford, etc... The antimation of these big figure people is enough to give you stomach cramps.

Yeah, some shows aren't near the 10 rating, but it beats watching the 5 o'clock news.
