Them inline 5's are based off the I6 that makes 270 horsies that debuted in the Trailblazers.

The way those headlights are angled and shaped make the truck seem angry at something.....

the motors (i4 and i5) are simply the i6 from the new trailblazer, which is a very technically advanced motor with dohc and what not, with cylinders cut off.

just like the 4.3 was just a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off.

the motors are monsters compared to what's out right now.

a family member of mine works in the plant that builds the motors, and they tested an s10 with the current 4.3 and one with the i4 and the i5, both of which wooped it's ass.

also... i know the body is ugly, but keep in mind that the frame and suspension setup on the s10 is from 1982, when that setup first came out. all they've done is change the body on it... i think that truck is completely all new...

. Thats ok though, they make a supercharger/intercooler kit for the 4.3, stock engine with 10 psi you can put down 290-300 horsies to the wheels. Supposedly it won't kill your engine either, the 4.3 is cast iron and the compression on it isn't very high, 9.4:1 I think.

Lets see how many new 4 and 5 cylinders keep up with it then.

if we want to get into this...

sure, mod the 4.3 and you'll get a bunch more power.

so are you not going to allow mods on the new 4/5 and try to keep up? i don't think so..

so if you mod one of these motors, with their dohc head design, they'll respond just as well if not better...

fight fair. don't make one sided arguments.

and come on... look at what you said...

you'd have to mod a 4.3 to catch the new STOCK motors.

that was my point all along...

It will be more then catching up. It depends on what market they have for them.
If it's like the current I-6 GM makes then there isn't going to be very much to do with besides modify the engine itself.

considering what the i6 is in,,, why would anyone want to mod it?

when the new s trucks come out (colorado, yes?)
then that will change. and it should be easier to extract hp from those motors, considering the dohc heads and the ease of a single turbo setup

there's a ton you could do... it depends on the computer in the truck and how willing it is to accept mods.

but i've got no doubt that a modded i5 would kill the s/c'd v6. it just makes sense...

when the new 4 cyl motor is making the same or close to the same power as the v6 is now...

Chevy is starting to piss me off. My brother is shoping for a new truck, and all the chevy's are kinda set for driving on the street. They are low to the ground. It kinda pisses me off! They are building them as grocerie getters, and carpool crap! If you going to have a 4x4 truck, you need to have it jacked up set for off-road. It just pisses me off!

Well he needs to buy the ZR2 package. Its a 4 door version of the S-10 with 4wd. It's kind of stupid though, the bed is really really short to make room for 4 doors.

A lot of the regular S-10's now are using the zq8 suspension the Xtreme uses. I don't know why they did that but thats just Chevy being stupid.

It's 215 hp? I don't you really think a turbo 5 cylinder would beat a supercharged V6? If it doesn't put out the torque like the V6 I don't think it could beat it.

He wants a Sierra 1500. He has a 99' Dodge 2500 4x4 now. Trust me he is not gonna go to an S-10. He is an Italian Redneck! Great Combo!

Yeah that would be better then an S-10 for 4x4 anyways. The new Sierras look pretty good anyways.
