Well it would be nice if you HAD a digicam so I could see your RS.

BRAVO!!! It may eliminate "the element of surprise," but to hell with that. I think gift-giving should be more practical then it is currently. I applaud your family's approach H Man

All I want for XMas is a flat screen LCD monitor for my home PC. That's it. My 'rents have actually shared in your family's approach H Man, in that I can find one for a good deal (maybe for $200 or less), buy it, and they'll reimburse me as my gift. Among many other small projects for the weekend, I need to get going on XMas shopping this weekend!

But generally I am done with that scene. If you have young kids, by all means buy them stuff and leave it under the tree. But for adults, I think it is more imporant just to get together with family or friends that you don't get to see as frequently as you'd like, and share the time together.

My girlfriend was very disappointed initially when I told her how I felt about it, and then later just joked around about how I was getting The Grinch on DVD and a sack of coal for the holiday from her. I realized that the gift-giving portion does play a role in how the holiday is celebrated, and without it, something would be missing. So I guess she caused me to second-guess my above opinion a bit.
