Really nice post Blitzen. other than F1 adaption, what excites me about the info. coming from BMW friends in munich is;

1. the optional 7-speed gearbox - choose between manual and SMG III.
2. the customer option to remove 250 km/h limiter if a racing license is possessed by owner.

The trial for the speed limiter removal will be introduced on the M3 CSL in Q4, 2003.

also relevant to the above thread.. the RS6 engine has been heavily tagged by BMW engineers as "the compeditor" during the new M5/M6 projects.. the Merc E55 was a "poor attempt" to try and beat the E39.. but, the RS6 is very nimble on the road and clearly outstanding in a straight line at 450Bhp.. ive personally seen one smoke a modified F355 up to 155MPH..

other than F1 reasoning, its no wonder BMW engineers were compelled to raise the bar again (like the E39 did) and opted for a 9000rpm V10 in an attempt to hammer audi. but, just as i type that -- i remember Audi make the current 500Bhp 40 valve V10 powerplant in the Lamborghini Gallardo, which the new Audi RSR is going to share...

its going to be interesting, but my money is on the munich boys!

Really? That doesnt surprise me too much because of the quattro and 450bhp but a modded F355, damn.

Father's on list for new M5, seriously. I think the ultimate Sports sedans are Audi S8, Mercedes S55 or S600 Sport, and M5. Audi RS6 or S6 are ok too.

I hope to god your kidding me. I want you to find one example of a stock BMW with forced induction of any kind, you wont, not in recent cars at least. BMW is upping to a 5.0 litre V10 for more power with natural aspiration. Besides, supercars.net recently released some specs and pics of the next generation M5

I have an '02 M3 and it is pretty darn quick. How much quicker would it be if I added a turbo or supercharger? I'm pretty sure it would be heck of a lot quicker. There are some mean supercharged and turbo charged Benz's out there. An S600 blew me away. We are talking about a luxury sedan that weighs more than 1000 lbs. more than my sports coupe. That is some serious power. The SL 55 is pretty darn quick as well (0-60 in 4.5 sec.) despite it's heft. I had a Volvo 850 Turbo that put out 222 HP with just 2.3L of displacement. The Volvo now has 180,000+ miles on it and still runs great. Would a V-10 that revs up to 9,000 really be more reliable than a forced induction V-8?

the M5 doesnt compete w/ the E Class, it competes w/ the E55 AMG though. try beating an M5 with an E320 lol.

I Think BMW will follow up with adding turbo aspiration to compete with Mercedes. BMW will probably put turbos in their M cars and the 760Li and 760i since Mercedes added turbo aspiration to their AMGs and S600 V12. It's pretty logical if BMW adds turbos to their M fleet and their 760.

I think this whole thing about NA engines versus foced induction is stupid. I know turbos sometimes have lag times and supercharges whine a bit. Simply having a turbo or supercharges does not make an engine a ¨better engine¨.
