Re: upper intake problem on '97 LeSabre
The LIM bolts are not Torque To Yield - TTY but GM recommends replacing them since they will have new threadlocker applied. I've reused old LIM bolts with no problems but you must clean all old threadlocker off first and apply the new. I use Permatex brand low-med strength threadlocker.
Also, on the UIM bolts GM recommends using the revised 132 in-lbs (11 lbs-ft) for the UIM bolts in the same old torquing pattern. Effective 2004.

Re: upper intake problem on '97 LeSabre
Just another question on the LIM gasket replacement.
Is any kind of sealer used on the LIM gaskets or not? I know sealer is recommended on the end seals? but wasn't sure on the main gaskets that attach to the heads. Also what is the difference with the gaskets that have locating pins(series II) ?Are there small holes that hold these gaskets in place? sort of like the pins or small stud bolts on the water pump? Just trying to get as much info as possible before I attack this job. Didn't even think about doing this (LIM)job as the problem right now is the leaking plenum on the top.Alot of threads though emphazied it wouldn't be too smart to bypass this job when the top half is off. (I agree). So far it seems external but some is probably being sucked into the upper intake and burned off. So far keeping an eye on the coolant level has told me not too much loss, but this can change at any time. Thanks, Formzy |

Re: upper intake problem on '97 LeSabre
Our Buick Tips & Maintenance forum has an explanation between pinned and unpinned LIM end gaskets. See link below.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=700916 Use hi-temp RTV sealant on the corners where the port and end gaskets meet. On the revised GM aluminum framed port gaskets or aftermarket FelPro brand you do not need to apply any sealant on the port gaskets.
