I have a '97 honda accord, stock system that I want to bring to the next level. I'm not into bumpin' down the street, but I want something that sounds clean with no distortion at high volume with a kicky bass. it was suggested that i get a 10' sub with some good 6x9's, run a 4 way amp (2 lines to the rears and 2 lines to the sub). does anyone think this is too much for what I want? will a strong set of 6x9's do the job? I appreciate any suggestions you have! thanks

try audiobahn their great for subs

Is all of the above an answer?

RF subs....well, depending on the model, they can be useful I guess. They get loud for cheap, as long as you don't care about how the bass sounds then they're a viable option. I've never even heard of Performance Technik, and Sony car audio sucks balls. If you want to upgrade I recommend replacing it all and starting over. The Pioneer head could be a solid base though, probably no need to change that as long as it still works well and has the features you want.

Re: 1400 Watt 6 X 9 speakers

Screw all you guys my setup is the best. I got a million watt legacy amp!!!!(well its only 50x2RMS, but its a new way of rating the peak!!!), Two pyramid 12's the give a loud and clean .5 million watts each (oh wait they blew up when I put 100 watts to them) and my lanzar cap gives me all the surge i need for the million watts from my stock battery and 24 AWG power wire!!!!! BEAT THAT SETUP!!!!! BTW is in a inproperly tuned bandpass with more mirrors, neons and chrome then the eye can handle. What Now!!

Amp

I'm a total newbie, was wondering if someone can tell me if this is good for a monoblock:
Max power, 2 ohm 2200w x 1
RMS power, 4 ohm 1200w x 1
Bridged power N/A
Max Power 3000w x 1
Signal-noise-ratio >100dB
THD .05 %
Dimensions, 11 1/2" W x 2 1/2"H x... 12 7/8"

Re: 1400 Watt 6 X 9 speakers

Unfortunately many of those specs are easy to "fudge" so it's impossible to say. The easiest way to see if it's a good amp is to look at the brand's reputation. You also need to know if the amp will put out the power you want at the impedance you need. That one looks like it will do 1200x1 @ 4ohm and who knows what at 2ohm (max power is useless).

Re: 1400 Watt 6 X 9 speakers

definitely bad

check this out, you don't really need to know what you're looking at in these pics, as long as you know what you're looking for. Some of the more important things in an amp design is the number (and quality) of the output transistors (the things lining the sides of the amp) and the number and size of the power supply caps. The transistors are what provide ALL of the power that is delivered to the speaker, they spit out the voltage and supply as much current as is "requested" by the speaker. They're the heart and soul of the amp, the more you have the more current the amp can supply, more current carrying capability means they're under less stress during normal operation, the amp is more reliable, etc. The power supply caps are what provide power to the output transistors in between the pulses of the switched power supply, in essence, the more powerful the amp is the more power supply caps it needs, if it doesn't have enough then they'll run dry and the amp will suck.

Look at these pics, the 1st is a Boss amp rated at 3000 watts, the 2nd is a US Amps rated at 3000 watts. Notice a difference?

Boss
US Amps

While the Boss doesn't look that bad, there is no WAY it can do anywhere NEAR 3000 watts. They do this a lot, the build an amp that can do about 500 watts reliably, they give it enough output voltage where it can do about 1000 watts before clipping (even though it's not clipping, everything in the amp is being stressed to the max and will fail pretty easily), and then they stick a 2000 watt rating on it.

Re: 1400 Watt 6 X 9 speakers

Hey,

I've been looking around a bit. How's Pyle Audio?
Went to their site but they have no RMS value on their amps.
