Re: '00 GP Sputtering while driving, need help

lil nages, what brand of MAF sensor did you buy? If it's one from A-1 Cardone, it could still be bad, as those are very problematic.

Re: '00 GP Sputtering while driving, need help

I bought the MAF sensor off ZZperformance. It resembled the one previously on my car.

I also just had the car scanned because the SES light was still on. The MAF sensor code came up as well as the oxygen sensor code. It was reset and hopefully the hesitation and sputtering quits.

get it scanned again and check out that o2 sensor problem.

Re: '00 GP Sputtering while driving, need help

I read somewhere that its possible to have a vaccuum leak with both the maf sensor and o2 sensor codes popping up? I have an unusually high idle in park, right around 1000rpms, drops to 800 in drive, and with the maf sensor plugged in, I get hesitation on acceleration and when stopping at lights/stop signs, the cars sputters (rpms jumping) and tries to die, gotta kick it in neutral to keep it running. Would a vacuum leak cause this? I don't know much about cars but can get myself around an engine with little guidance. Thanks for the input.

it would help to post the exact codes you are getting. Then we might be able to help

Re: '00 GP Sputtering while driving, need help

ok well the only code that I got today was P0102. The last time I had it scanned it picked up an o2 sensor code. This was with the MAF connected and had been driven for a while. Today I had the MAF disconnected and it hasn't been connected since the last scan. Thanks

Re: '00 GP Sputtering while driving, need help

In most cases but not all a DTC of P0102 is typically a bad MAF sensor. It is not a low voltage condition but a low frequency. DTC P0102 indicates the PCM module has detected a MAF output frequency that is too low at the low side threshold. < 1200 Hz. Therefore, you should question whether the MAF you got is any good. However, it is good practice to check other things. Check the voltages at the MAF sensor electrical connector mainly the PCM 5 volt reference. MAF output back to the PCM module is difficult to properly test unless you have an oscilloscope and know how to use one. The MAF input can be checked with a DMM on dc volts. In the resistance mode you can ohm out the output wiring from the MAF connector back to one of the PCM module 80 pin connectors.

MAF color coding and pin configuration left to right. Pin C, B, and A in that order.

C = PCM reference voltage (5 volts)
B = ground
A = MAF signal output

Note: According to my documentation Pin C can be color coded either pink or brown. Pin B is typically black/white (ground). Pin A is either yellow or gray/white.
