Rap music is mostly made up of drum and or bass samples from either:
Pink Floyd
Queen
James Brown.

There are of course some original rap artists, most of the rap and hip hop made in NZ is orginal, however all the crap you here on the Radio, and see videos made for is not even a little bit orginal.

I can kinda understand why most don't like Rap but there are some very talented Rap musicians such as the Roots out of Philadelphia, Pa. that play their own instruments and their own original music. I hate to see Rap take such a beating from everybody especially when so much about it is not known I love Rap, not all of it but I've been around long enough to have seen it grow from its beginnings. Rap is treated like the stepchild of the music world because nobody cares enough to go beyond the crap they see on MTV or BET. Rap is just as good to me as other forms of music are to you all. Not all Rappers glorify material things; some actually use it as a creative outlet for the expression of their feelings and emotions. I'm not whining or anything I just hate to see a decent form of music take such a beating. Also try giving Common a listen and A Tribe Called Quest are perennial favorites of mine. Just voicing an opinion; thank you for listening.:grey:

Most mainstream rap really does suck...which is unfortunate because people love their ignorance...they never get past that to listen to the stuff that is actually good and a display of talent, and then blindly comment that all rap sucks. I also hate seeing the good stuff have to suffer from the reputation earned by the bad stuff...

i agree wit what you all said..........but the thing is is that the only reason that most people dont like rap is cause they say that rap is all about gangs and stupid shit like that..............well it should be cause the rappers are rapping bout that cause its tru...................for example Snoop Dogg was in jail for murder or some shit (it was either that or assault).................Tu-Pac was shot knifed every damn thing you can think of....................Notorious B.I.G was killed by gunshots................hell even 50Cent is a real thug..........he carries 2 loaded pistols wit him at all times, hes been shot 9 times and survived, he started out by selling crack on the street...................

True enough...they're the ones that are usually the worst, yet get the most radio play and taint the rap reputation....

Ride With Me by Nelly was a great song (though not really rap), but everything else out of him has pretty much just plain sucked.

Good point, except...the artist you listed are moreso hip hop acts, not really like your average rapper like JaRule or Nelly.

There is a difference. I like all hip hop, but like only half of the rap music out there.

I think the problem alot of people have with "negative" rap is the truth within it. Most people can't face or try to hide from the truth. The reality of the poor, discriminated, hopeless, whatever problems people go through.

People like Cash Money Millionaires (who rap way too much about materialistic things) and Spice 1 (who is overly violent) make rap look bad for all. But only to those with closed minds.

Maybe I should point out a tidbit of the older generations closed mindedness. They once thought jazz/blues was the devils music.

Ignorance is eternal. Unfortunately.
