dont get me wrong... fords are ok... but chevys are hot! I still think that a 96 9c1 caprice will dust a 00 P71 crown vic. Probably not true but thats what I think. What do you guys think?

Absolutely true. The Ford has a 4.6 liter engine in it. Popular Mechanics tested, a while back, two Crown Vics against each other - one was a P71 Police Interceptor, while the other was a stock, off-the-dealer version. The police version was SLOWER!

I've talked to cops who were on the force here in Mesa, when Mesa had its fleet of LT1 cars. They all wish those cars were back as they accelerated faster, braked harder, out-cornered and generally outperformed the Interceptors.

Re: How would you rate your caprice?

Cops I've spoken to around here all say that out of the Caprice, Crown Vic and the newer wrong-wheel-drive Impala they all miss driving the Caprice. In some states they refurbish the Caprice 9C1s and put them back into service, but here in upstate NY the salt during the winter kills cars so police departments have no choice but to buy new cars. A security gaurd at Monroe Community College actually purchased one of the Caprice patrol cars back in the day when they were getting rid of them and he uses it as a daily driver and uses it to patrol the grounds instead of the cars they supply. He says "you really can't beat these cars. It's a shame they stopped makin' em"

The Caprices, even some boxy's are still used around the City area here as Taxi Cabs. Medical transportation such as Apple Transportation (a company that takes people who are seen as unfit to drive because of medical reasons to and from doctor's offices) are also still using Caprices as thier service vehicles.

P.S. Cops like the Crown Vics better than the Impalas though.
