Re: Z71-No 4wd

Locked in 4wd & by turning one front the other turns also in opposite direction. (as expected)
Front drive shaft never spins but moves just a frazzle each time you change direction of turning front tire. (not expected).
This would be normal if the front drive shaft is not turning or is locked up. Need to hold the other wheel and see what happens. Also need do this with tranny in N and all 4 of the ground.

Put parking brake on & scotched rear wheels (the not safe part) & put truck in forward 4wd. By giving it just a little throttle the front would barely move like it wanted to turn but wouldn't. It would only "jump" like it was about to take off. This is what 4WD is all about. The fronts are not going to move unless the backs are moving also.

Sorry to say that it's sounding more & more like a t-case problem and that the front diff is OK.

Not yet. Work's picked up a little the last couple of weeks so I haven't really had a chance to do anything.
I'll keep ya'll posted though.

I still have not taken this thing to the shop.
But it gets a little wierder...last week we had our first snow (just a few inches) & while going up my driveway it started spining (in 2wd) so just for the hell of it I put it in Auto4wd & it seemed to hook up. I backed back down & tried it in regular 4wd High & it didn't work as expected. I started up again in 2 & when it broke traction I put it in auto again & it hooked up again.
I guess the good news is I've got some 4wd but don't know how or why the other won't work.
Maybe one of these days I'll get it to the shop & I'll be sure & post the results.
