What caused the fire?
I recently replaced the valve cover seals. I used a highly flamable cleaner to clean my engine while i had it apart. Apparently I didnt clean it all off. Cause on the way home from The Lake Friday night I was a Ball of Thick smoke traveling at 80mph. I was gonna try n make it home. Had like 10miles to go too. But I stopped. It was a decent size flame under the hood. I freakin tried to blow it out. But I smoothered it with a Hoodie. Almost no damage. Just have to rewire and fix Wire harness. srry 4 the ramble

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

I dont mean to say anything bad, but just some of my thoughts ( some healthy critisism )...

when you design something like a car, apart from good looking it has to "work"...

i dont understand why the entry 4 isnt leading, i think its the only good and well thought drawing here.

entry 3 just doesnt work...
look at the front wheel, it fits there?
then the front light must be a flat sticker and not an actual light ( otherwise it would touch the wheel... try to continue the ellipse line from the wheel and see where it goes.. doesnt fit ).
rear wheel is all wrong too.
the spoiler is out of perspective, its going the opposite way.
the tyres look like they are made of plastic,
where is the left mirror?
the top and bottom versions of the car are different, look at the side window line and the space behind the rear wheel... just different. etc etc etc

Yes I read that thing above... " you are voting on the best design idea..." .. but there is no "idea" when its all wrong, doesnt fit and doesnt work.

Entry 4 is by far the best, who is the author btw?

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

If you want to know, I didn't vote for number 4 because to me (and I mean no offence by this) it just looks like a Pantera with a body kit on it.
Remember, this is judged on the design, not who can draw better. As a design contest, 3 is in my view, the only one that does something that properly fits the brief. Put it this way; most of what you is about the actual drawing skill. Of this, as it is not part of the judging criteria, nothing needs to be said. The rest you talk about in the drawing is to do with the packaging of the car and not actually that hard to "fix" without changing the design. I mean, is it a design when you take car and change some features? To me, no. That is not to say that I don't think 3 is not the better drawing.

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

there is no "design" if it cant be done, those lights dont fit in there, like some other things too. is it a good "design" then?
draw 2 mirrors or dont draw them at all. it just looks all wrong.
I would never vote for a design that was just "drawn" quickly, without thinking at all, and in this case, the Pantera is a lot more interesting, even though it looks like a Pantera with a bodykit, its still different.

I can imagine what the teachers in my uni would say about that "design".

dont get me wrong please, im really not trying to say anything bad about the person who drew or anything, not at all, its all just my opinion.

It was a big surprise to see only 1 person ( until now ) apart from me to vote for pantera.

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

Could just be what kind of design school you went to. True, the drawing isn't fully resolved as I had said; the front doesn't work for me but I can see the idea behind it and to me, that idea fits the brief whereas the other doesn't.
What would your tutors say if you took car, put a few vents on it, moved a line or two and called it a new design?

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

I voted for the winner.

My apology:

#1 looks quite cool but doesn't have the wow effect like #3 has
#2 looks a bit toony
#3 looks awesome
#4 shows great rendering skills, but designwise it's poor
#5 lacks color or shading, not good for a presentation

Please don't be offended, it's just positive and honest criticism.

Also I'd like to join the next competition as well as I would have liked to join this one, but unfortunately I haven't found the time to work out and even render a design.

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

SieG, thanks for your C&C on my drawing. I'm glad that you had taken the time out of your life to try your hardest to bash it straight back to the stoneage. What about everyone else that entered? I don't see you bum rushing them.

However, people vote for what they like. It doesn't matter if the design actually works. IT'S A DRAWING! Nowhere in the description did it specify that the design had to actually work, it's just a concept and a rough one at that. I admit, I am a little rusty in the concept department but hey, it works for some people maybe not you but for others. To be perfectly honest, yes, I changed things at the last minute. The car on the top was where I started and the front of the car changed 2 or 3 times before I came to what you see. Now, maybe if I was an actual auto designer, it would've come out a little better, but I don't devote ALL of my time to redesigning the automobile.

You draw purely from life as far as the samples on your website go. You see things from a realistic point of view only. I see plenty of ability but no creativity there. As with the Pantera.

Re: Voting: 60/70's SUPERCAR DESIGN CONTEST

Hey GB, not so fast with naming the winner! I'm positive I can pull this one out! Ha, Just kidding.

I could sit here and defend my Pantera til I'm blue in the face, but what difference would that make? The Superbird is blowing away everything because of eye appeal. The 'Wow' factor. It doesn't matter that it's based on a 60's classic and not a 'super car'.

Like GB said, lets get over it, and on with the next comp. And to whoever is hosting the next competition, please be specific on the criteria. I think there was some confusion on what the rules were here.
