I am definately a long range shooter.

Your shot group is actually pretty good, but from close up it's easier. Give me a group from 100+ yards and that will show off how well you really know shooting

I don't know why your messing around with that .22 anyway. It's good for shooting targets and that's it

In the military we pretty much only use 5.56 (.223 Remington ) and the 7.62 (.308) Than we have a standard 9m round for pistols.
God DAMN thats crazy! I have mine sighted at 50 yards because thats about all we would need tromping around in the woods trying to shoot chickedees and red squirrels. I mainly use the .22 because ammo is so friggin cheap and its a lot easier on the ears. Shooting 215 rounds through the .308 would be expensive as hell not to mention hell on my shoulder and hearing. Next year I would like to do some of that 500 yard shit with my .308, but I feel bad just touching that stock let alone rolling around in the dirt with it. I've got my eye on a thumbhole stock, I will just paint that flat black or cammo or something so I feel less bad about hurting it. Yeah, I claim to be an expert by no means, but I do claim to have a fuck ton of fun with it .

Hehe, I know I just like giving you a hard time. If you do desire to be more of a distance shooter you are going to need a rifle that is atleast a .223 round. That's good for a maximum affective range to a point target(like a person) of 550 yds, and an area target(like a car) of 800 yds.

Also I would consider finding a rifle that has some sort of buffer spring in the stock. (Perhaps they make one for your .308.?) It can vastily improve your accuracy by reducing your recoil and also help with that shoulder pain. To compare an M16 fires a .223 round and has a buffer spring and feels like it's shooting a .22. But I do agree with you, ammo isn't cheap at all.

Most of my experience shooting and teaching is instructing people in long range accuracy. There are alot of breathing tricks, trigger and sight tricks to get your shot groups real tight. But more importantly distance shooting is about 1 thing primarily. Adjusting your fucking sites for windage!

If you ever come out here or I go there, I'd gladly give you a few pointers and go shooting with you.

And don't worry about that stock. They don't put them on guns to look pretty
