I had a similar issue with my '93 Sonoma. I had to manually inspect all the wires that were underneath the back of my truck. I found one that looked like it had been nicked by something and sure enough i snipped it and it was full of corroded copper. I spliced in a new wire in the effected area and it worked just fine after that.
