The kit brake discs looked decent, but there were no ventilation channels so I decided to make new ones.
The calipers are also rediculous for such a big scale kit. They are not visible from the outside !
This means that when you look through the spokes of the wheel there will only be a brake disc, no caliper.
But more on the calipers later. Now on to the front discs:

First I made 4 discs out of styrene by just rough-shaping by a knife, then drilled a hole through all four discs.
Then I bolted them together with an M2 bolt and nut which I put in a drill machine and sanded them circular.
Then I marked the ventilation holes (pic 1).
I drilled a pilot hole and inserted a small pin to keep all four discs exactly positioned (pic2).
And then there was a whole lot of drilling.. but the nice thing is you get 4 identical discs.
This also means any mistake is aslo visible on all four
In pic 4 you can se the intermediate piece, the ventilation channels, of the discs.

i was in ore reading through the scratch build radiator and front struts but those disc brakes are amazing nice work

Long time, no update!
But this weekend I found some motivation to carry on with the LM...
Last update covered the discs. The kit calipers were useless, so I had to cast some new ones.
The kit rear calipers are actually pretty decent, but they are only the inner half of the caliper, and are also cast together with the parking brake caliper.

So I decided to cast a few pieces of the useful half of the caliper.
I used modeling clay as a mould and cast the calipers in plaster. Poor mans resin ;o)
But works really well, dires fast and is very easy to work with afterwards.
The first tries looks a little rough but they are very easy to sand to a nice finish.



The caliper halves were cut out to fit around the disc:





The rim interfered with tha caliper so I had to sand the rim on the inside.

Next problem was that the disc was way to far on the inside of the rim.
This I had to correct by drilling out the disc so that the center part of the rim actually goes thhrough the disc:



Then a distance ring was made to be able to attach the disc to the front hub:

I'm still working on the F40, although the progress is a bit slow.
Right now I'm working on the engine.In the F40 the engine is quite visible when you open the engine bay so I wanted to make it quite detailed.
Fujimi has made a beautiful engine as always in their 1/16 models.



Added some fuel pressure regulators and a fuel rail:



The intake manifold:




Most work of all was spent on the turbos.
Fujimi has made a big mistake in the turbo instalation on this kit. The exhausts go from the manifold into what looks like the compressor part of the turbo. The exhausts then exit the same turbine radially and continue into the intercooler ! (upper left pic) Ooops..
What is supposed to look like the exhaust turbine has no inlet at all, but just an outlet axially to the exhaust system (upper right pic)...

This had to be corrected:

The wastegate Y-pipe was detailed with a spring-loaded expansion joint:
