Bottom line it all comes down to what you want.... A honda engine that is hard to tune and doesn't support turbo (oil pan cannot be tapped because of its positioning and function) or a 1.8 liter turbo charged engine that can be easily and effectivly tuned into a monster..... Better yet throw a turbo on a 2.8L VR6

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping to do. VR6 plus turbo = ownage.

i would agree but the 1.8 with a sport clutch is still fun and accelrates and handles nicely.

No comparison in the real world. I test drove the RSX Type-S and it is guttless compared to the 1.8T. The torque is just overwhelming in the 1.8T and the RSX has to play catch up all the time. And the HP is actually closer to each other according to the dyno sheets. So RSX claims 200 hp and 1.8T 180, but in reality, they both put about 170 to the wheels. Also I had the privledge of driving my cousins Honday S2000 (gutless below 6000 rpm) and for real world driving, I still prefer the 1.8T. I don't like the idea of a car having to play catch up all the time, and that is why I love the 1.8T. Instant power when you need it. And with just a few mods, the 1.8T rules! This is coming from a guy who's experienced driving all 3 cars mentioned. Besides, the quarter mile times for the Honda's are with professional drivers that had lots of experience launching it just right to get the best times. I've seen someone (non professional) with his S2000 not being able to break 15's in the quarter mile! Hell, I could have bought some of those higher HP cars, but I live in the real world and get more out of the 1.8T then I would out of the others, besides, I love the look on the other peoples faces when I pull away from them with my little 1.8T!

Ive test driven both cars, (I go around my area of Dallas from dealership to dealership test driving cars, you should really try it! The most expensive car Ive test driven was a $29000 Camaro Z28, so any car under about $30,000 is not a problem!)
But anyways, the RSX-S doesnt really feel very special until you spin it into the upper RPM range, very typical of Honda engines. The GTI 1.8T gets all of its 180 ft/lbs of torque at like 2000 rpm! I think the VW would take the RSX. |

the VR6 rules but even the 1.8t would kill the rsx since it doesnt get any of its power till higher rpms.

I drive an RSX type S and my friend at work drives a VR6 GTI. Her car is alot of fun to drive..has a very tight tranny...yes, it has more low-end torque which is a nice change from my car....from 0-40 the VR6 is quicker, but once I hit VTEC at about 5800 rpms, I pull on the GTI. It does not have the top end power of the type S. Also, the type S takes advantage of gearing, where peak torque at higher rpms is better then low rpms....check out...
http://vettenet.org/torquehp.html I do really like the VR6, it is a great car...I wish i had heated seats too

Well...
Having the torque peak at low or hig rpm doesn't really matter, as long as you have a flat torque curve. The VR6 have more torque across the entire powerband from 1500 to 6500 rpm then the RSX have at peak. And as far as I know, the VR6 have more top end power. All in all, what really matters is the area under the power/torque curve. |
