I have gotten my max up to ~140mph on bayshore by 3com. I had the fortune of living in Germany for 6 years. I remember having the govenor kick in on my US DOT approved POV on the autobahn trying to pass and fearing for my life hoping I could get out of the passing lane without incident. I do not understand why the US does not have autobahns. Our roads are wider and straighter- for the most part. Guess the cops wouldn't have an cash cows to milk if we did that tho.

You're absolutely right, no speedtraps, no tickets, no moola. Besides the obvious highway differences, I know for a fact that our transportation or highway systems were designed based on autos of the past.
Cars are safer now and can handle much better than back when they had thin bias ply tires, no ABS, ESP, All wheel drive, Air Bags and other safety devices currently employed in our autos now.
55, 65 and 70 or 75 is about the highest you will get and that speed is too slow for cross country driving.
