Where are you living in Germany that they have 25% tax plus another 26????

I Just started a business here and the fact is the total tax to get any car into Germany is 26% total. That is 10% import tax and the standard 16% value added tax or what’s known as “Mehrwertsteuer". There is no 25 plus another 26 yada yada.... I have been thru the process once already and the import tax can float a FEW % higher because of the year of the vehicle but nowhere near 20% the value added tax is a set 16% be it a car or oranges. I have a registered business on the local German economy here as a vehicle import/exporter I have called Zoll (tax) and got the full rundown, the %'s you are talking about arent for Germany!

Yeah the German inspection "TUV" is tough but nothing like the stuff the people in the US have to go thru with the whole MotoRex bit. After reading up on that Germany is cake!

With emission the deal is easy also, any modifications and you are almost sure to fail CURRENT emissions BUT you can still register and legally drive the car under its year of manufacture test results, just your street tax "Strassensteuer" is going to be thru the roof, as it will be already due to the HP. For clarification, they wont fail your 95 GTR for failing current test, they will fail it and block it if it fails the results they were using as standard in 1995. Once again, its still going to be expensive to drive for not meeting what I think is currently Euro norm 3 emissions regulations.

There are a whole plethora of issues here in Germany and if you didn’t do your homework up front it’s going to get to be expensive quick!

If you are working for the military the process is easy and I can have you rockin your ride about two days after it hits port. That includes the 6 hour plus trip (one way) to Bremerhaven and back (yeah I know you can make it faster but try it pulling a trailer there and back, German regulation reqires you to stay at 80 KMH when pulling a trailer be it loaded with a vehicle or not).

Hope you know what you are doing if not....... Get ready to pull out some hair and shell out some big bucks dude.

Re: Anyone from the EU(not UK)

well excuse me GURU,
well I just clarified it with my german friend after I had posted that reply and never had a chance to correct it yup u are right only 26% taxes but to all you MILITARY ID card holders is FREE YES YES YES "FREE" why do i know cos i have a 1998 GTT sitting in my garage port...all you have to do is go to your local MP customs office and get the paperwork, collect your car at the port which you will pay 154 euros for port handling and security charges and pay another 130 euro for the fwding agent to unpack your container then slap the EU plates and drive home!! if your not use to driving on the right hand side please let somebody tow your car back for you....dont wanna wreak your skyline b4 ypou could even enjoy it....MUzzi call me I have buyers that wanna talk to you....my number is on one of the earlier post...uppppsss update ...military ID card holders ...bring your car with tempp plates to the base TUV inspection ...make sure lights, brakes and no leaks ...your car bound to pass no emissions or anything of that nature...and the 26% was UK MOT and TAX this is u purchase the car in UK

My bad!

Not tryin to flame you here or nothing just lot of smoke blowing here in Germany about the GTR and all. Quite sure you hear a lot too. You would be suprised about all of the actual arguments I get into over this whole subject. Its crazy. Sometimes I come out with the guns blazin, my bad! Got to see it from my perspective, talk like this (over high taxes) drive away customers. Its been a real problem for me as a importer trying to dispell all of the misconceptions and get the customer to trust me on the whole bit.

I will give you a ring on Monday afternoon, mad busy on some export projects and Monday afternoon they should be closed up (yeah I work on sundays .

Cool, no doubt you will hear from me
