Re: GTO in the states??

95 and 96 RT/TT do NOT have AWS. Hence the z15 chassis.

Re: GTO in the states??

Well I stated its basically identical to the MR in lack of options, so no ECS, no AA (not that stealths ever had it anyway ), no active exhaust, no digital climate(option on RT/TT), no leather(option on RT/TT), no AWS, no ABS, etc etc etc.

Re: GTO in the states??

Nope, I dont have ABS and I love it that way. None of the base models have it. ABS is crap anyway.

Youd be surprised how much the ABS system weighs. The ABS pump and the brackety is not light, plus you have all the extra lines. All trying to save weight.

Re: GTO in the states??

I ws just browsin' and ran across this thread... I'm gonna ignore all the flaming, and give you the quick run down (I was at one time trying to become an RI)

To bring in an MR, you'd need about 5-7 to get started. 3-4 get sacrificed to crash testing, another few to modify and test for things like emissions, and NHTSA guidelines (oh and check their website for detailed info)...

Now, if you can pull apart an MR and see that it contains the same parts and PNs as the VR4's here(i.e. brake components, bumpers, etc)... Then you can get those parts to pass off of the safety part easier, because they have already been deemed safe by the government.

It also takes tons of money to bond the cars (to get into the country) and then modify them, then you have to take them to an EPA certified testing lab. You also have to have detailed information on the modifications performed to meet the requirements... Oh, and all the modifications have to be performed by an RI(actually, I think there's another designation for the people who modify the cars, but it's been a few years since I was into this stuff)...

Oh and yeah, Motorex got busted for lots of things... The owner got into some really bad financial deals, he illegally imported the R32's and R34's, work took too long, his business went bankrupt, some cars were stolen, and he was sued... (I forgot where I was going with this...)...

Edit: Oh, and R33's made it into the states because they had a lot in common with the 300Zx's... I've got most of a mod sheet for bringing the R33's in the US (somewhere)

Re: GTO in the states??

tarrif on a car last time i checked(about a month ago) was 435% wat the car cost i.e. 10g car cost 43,500 to bring in.
most cars from japan are not worth importing in the first place.
honostly i dont know y motorex thought the skyline would b such a great buisness venture, but he did wat he wanted.
cars worth bringing in are those that are from europe, or gas saving cars at this point, who knows what in 5yrs, or hell even next yr

Re: GTO in the states??

you're on crack... I had stuff setup to bring in a Racecar Skyline for $12k delivered...

to get through customs, you have to bond the car at 150% of the value of the car, until the car is modified and clears customs...

Edit: just get a friend in Canada... import it into a Canadian port, register it in Canada, and drive it in the US... you have to return to re-register it in Canada every so often, but damn...

And why cant you type like this normally. You know its easier to type normal, than 2 type lik dis. Its also easier to read.

Mikel , awesome post man.

Blink youd be surprised how many people delete their ABS because its crap. It has caused ALOT of accidents acutally.

dude, quit digging your own grave.

the 3 periods a literary device called an ellipsis. if someone is already correcting your grammar, the absolute single thing you DON'T want to do is to TRY to correct someone else's grammar.

ellipsis...don't believe me? google it.

-------

ABS. one reason, if not the only one, why i'm proud to own a base 3S! my engine bay already looks clutter free .
