You don't tune for the stat, the tuner (Nelson, Wheatley, etc.) tell the PCM to take the engine out of warm up mode at a lower temperature.

TB coolant bypass is pointless, but, for some reason the radiator coolant is run through the TB, which raises the intake temp. This is necessary if it gets down to - 100 in the winter so your butterfly doesn't stick, but that is not the case for me.

If I were you, I would do a lot more research on mods before you do anything to your truck. Your fans are not going to get you any better MPG, but a tune will, and a wheatley tune is something like $250 or $275.

I have rebuilt engines and worked in machine shops since I was a teen. Plus: I am a Licensed Electrician (with a Degree in Mathematics/Engineering Technology). I am also a licened AC Technician. (I will stop there, but I assure you I am way more qualified than you) You almost sounded as if you thought I were incompetent

I started this thread to ask how they measured the radiator (fin area versus entire length). You have since attacked my reasoning and/or intelligence

Let me tell you something I could show you mathematically, but you would not be able to follow the complex anti-derivatives of physics, let alone basic trigonometrical calculations of heat. If you want to talk metallurgy, BRING IT! I can degree a cam with one hand, rebuild antique engines, electrical motors, whatever. I think I already showed you why I chose the fal fans, didnt I? Do you want me to break it down even more?

I tried to be humble, but your arrogance and condescension is starting to piss me off.

research before I do mods LOL I aint here to do "mods" as you call them. I am simply trying to correctly cool this engine, while maintaining correct dimensions made into the engineering of these trucks.

Look, I don't care what you are, but, frankly, you're not going to talk any circles around me.

If all you are wanting to do is "correctly cool" your engine, then leave it the hell alone; they cool like they're supposed to from the factory. Adding e-fans is a MOD, no matter what you think, and it's a mod that is intended to do nothing but free up RWHP.

Re: 28" or 34" radiator???

I was making a stab at GM when I said "correctly cool". THEY cut corners and I am going to do what THEY should have done to begin with.

These GM trucks/engines were built very inefficient. My 1977 Ford pickup with a 6.6L can get 14mpg WITH the A/C on. And it doesnt have plastic transmission parts, computer software, or other cheap crap (and will out-pull the 5.3L vortech) Will you still be driving your truck in 30 years after 380,000 miles? I bought this truck because of safety features like airbags, ABS, etc...Thats it

I want to remove the load caused by this fan/clutch setup. They did away with these things for a reason: economy/power.

Which takes us back to what I was saying to start with: eco/power gains by doing e fans alone is not going to be noticeable. To get noticeable gains in those departments, get your PCM tuned. You can do that for the same or less money than you plan on spending on the fans.
