I don't know if sex has gotten "freakier" all of the sudden- it's just that people have become FAR more open about it recently. People have been turned on in strange ways for the longest time...remember Marquis de Sade? Vlad the Impaler? and that nameless queen from Romania that they featured on the History channel a few months back?

No, sex has been freaky for a long long time, but not always talked about... However, like Dustin said, people are more open about it, and because of that, sex is more a topic of conversation, and is broadcast in various forms... I think this gives people ideas and they're like "wow... that sounds/looks like fun or whatever".... Just that more people are aware of the freakiness and are more accepting of it...

I agree there is a distinction, but it's a very fine line. There's some people who like to really hurt each other and I don't agree with that but "restraining" them and sensually "dominating" them to get them into it rather than beating them senseless is also different I think. You can tie someone up and use the whip as a feather and then give them a little tap to intensify it a little. Sorry, just my opinion

There's nothing like a little fantasy to make life interesting and prevent boredom - I guess the thing is how far and how comfortable your partner is with it as well as yourself.

I think the best way is to try a little and set some boundaries. You can go too far really quickly otherwise and then things get out of hand. There's also symbolism too - tying a former partner arms to the bedhead with a couple of ribbons did nothing to restrain her physically but it made an emotional difference to her. And that's as far as she wanted to go but it meant something (it meant a lot actually) to her.

And we'd agreed that either or us could opt @ any time by using a code word ie not 'No' but something we'd prearranged.

I'm not really gone or go any further than that. The other thing I'd point out is talking about wanting to do something and actually wanting to do it are completely different things.

We all have certain fantasies and some of them I guess are better left as that or in some cases left unsaid. On the other hand, being able to talk about can be helpful and also unhelpful - you need to have some respect for how it will come across with your partner as well. Suggesting that would like someone else involved may be taken as negatively as an indication of inadequacy for instance... so tread carefully.

And I've screwed up enough things to know you can't rewrite history either.
