Re: 18" rims fitting on '99 eclipse

They should be fine unless they're like 18x10's or something. I'd get that "popping noise" fixed first though.

i think she was saying that with the rims on it, it makes a pop noise, and with the OEM wheels on it doesnt.

Re: 18" rims fitting on '99 eclipse

The tires on the rims are 225-40 on 18s. Rim measure 8" across width ways and they only make popping noises when the car is getting lower back to the ground.

225's will be fine. Regardless of the popping noise coming from the rims or not, a popping noise in the suspension is not a good thing and it's something I would get checked out ASAP.

Re: 18" rims fitting on '99 eclipse

Hmm..rotating mass. As long as the weight is matched by performance to us the rim then it shouldn't be an issue, if the rotating mass is greater by weight than the 'stock' set up , it can have a huge impact on 'performance' such as 0-60's , brake wear and tear , bearings , etc.

I think anything over a 16 is too much for such a puny vehicle which is why I am sticking with those as the 16's I have are obviously bigger than the stock 14's but they weigh in at 9 lbs less each with tire.

But for show and what not 18's are ok I suppose. That rim looks heavy as a mudda fugga though.

Tons of people have 17s, 18s, 19s, and I've even seen 20s in a few cases. I know I'll be putting some 19s on the Talon when it's finished, but they're pretty light and they look badass. As long as you get a camber kit, you shouldn't have any excessive wear on the bearings.

Rotten egg smell is usually the heater core from what I've heard.

It could be the cat. converter. When it goes bad it smells horrible.

Hey l_eclipse_l i tried to send you an e-mail but don't know if it worked i was going to ask you if you ever tried 18" rims on your car? Cause we have basically the same car...kinda, you've probably done more to it but i hope to.

I haven't tried 18's on my car but I know many people on this forum have had 18's with no problems. I personally wouldn't go bigger than 17's because once you go bigger than that, weight becomes an issue since we don't have a lot of power to make up for it like the turbo cars. If I keep my car long enough, the next time I need tires I'm gonna get some new wheels and they will be 17's.
