 Ummm what does my Truck have to with anything? Its Carbuerated... big deal.

And the TPS deal, You have a tendency to ramble shit off about your car which can confuse me. "ahh my 302tractionlok 3.08 gears but my sensor for my TPSRAF diddle daddle hinge point with my K&N and the gearing with my AOD4911 1 2 1 2. .... Buchi"

which makes me go... What's a TPS? Not that i dont know what a Thottle Position Sensor is, or what it does... but you like i mentioned have a tendancy to ramble, so I asked... wondering what the hell you were pointing at. Is that a crime? If so tell me, cause ill just shut up whenever you mention your Ultrafast car. Mr. MAN! :hehehe:

OWNS JOOOOO!!!!

Anywho, enough bashing each other... you just made a blatant statement that anybody with a Carb knows jack squat about anything Fuel Injected related. I found that to be offensive.

Muscle heads with carbs for high tech equipment would argue it dosent help, but they know nothing of electronic systems.
You can't really say that. Some mechanics who have been working on cars when carbs were the thing, had to learn all about the other electronic systems, fuel injected and whatever else, when carb engines went out and fuel injected went in. If they didn't learn, naturally they were out of a job. If everyone who used to work on cars in the 60's and 70's all quit their jobs, then maybe your statement might have some fact to it.

whats wrong with hopping up a 4 door family sedan? thats how a sleeper becomes a sleeper! i know my mom's 4 door accord(all stock) isnt that fast, but its fun to drive. and you'd be surprised how many cars are slower than my mom's high 15 second car

eeh, you're right. They are fun to drive. They can be sleepers and they really can be nice. But all the 4-door accords I've seen in person are all show. It's always been the same story. Their mommy or somebody got them a car so they really couldn't choose a 2-door but what the hell, might as well make it cool looking. There's an Accord around here that looks SO nice. <<[I'm usually not that impressed by most peoples souped cars because often times it's overly generic or has MAJOR traits of RICE. I can understand little things but I saw somebody the other day that wired 10" LiteGlow neons together and then wired them under his car. ]>> So I park next to this guy and he's got 20% tinted windows, all around. Terminator 2 spoiler, altezzas, 17" rims, carbon fiber hood, a gew gauges on the side. So I get him to pop the hood and he's completely stock. And he's an automatic. Earlier he was bragging about his 12 second 1\4. All show. This is how it's always been around here. Props to anyone that actually soups the engine. Nothing wrong with that. It's jsut the posers, who can come in any car so the Accord thing wasn't entirely true. just the first to come to mind.

Also while we are on the topic of octane (sort of ) I also had a debate in OT about higher octane fuel and how my car doesn’t perform as well with lower octane fuel (96 as opposed to 98) and I basically got told that it was all in my head.
Hmm, I just wrote a 5 min reply to this, but the server was busy, so I lost the messag

Anyways, assuming a good running engine, there are several things that affect detonation. There is the compression ratio, the octane rating of the fuel, and the ignition timing. The more you compress the fuel/air mixture, the slower you want it to burn. When it burns at the correct speed, you get the most power. If it burns to quickly, you suffer detonation, and it damages your engine.

Your engine has EFI, and a knock sensor. The knock sensor senses detonation and immediately retards the ignition a few degrees, to prevent full detonation. The result is minor detonation, not really enough to notice. You will notice it isn't as smooth, and it is making less power than usual.

Turbocharging is a way of effectively raising the compression. Under boost, the turbo stuffs more air into the cylinder, and once the intake valve closes, it compresses it to a ratio far greater than the outside atmosphere. I think the ratio is 1 lb of boost/0.4 CR... it's a very rough ratio, and not 100% accurate, when flow and static compression are taken into account, but it's pretty close. So 10 lbs of boost, would raise your overall compression ratio abour 4 points, making an 8:1 engine 12:1 under boost. 20 lbs would make it 16:1, which as you can tell is a hell of a lot of compression. The higher the compression, the slower the fuel has to burn, thus the higher octane rating.

There is a certain fuel your engine has been configured to run for, it should say in your owners handbook... If you raise the boost, you'll have to raise the octane of your fuel. OTOH, if you lower your boost, you can use cheaper fuel. If you use 100 octane gas in a car tuned to use 87 octane, you're actually going to lose power, because the gas will burn TOO slowly.

BTW, LPG has a RON of 130, which is why when regular engines are converted to propane, they lose a little power. However, if the compression is raised, the power is more than made up for. Propane also works wonders for turbocharged engines, since the very cold propane gas works to lower the charge temperature after the intercooler, sometimes resulting in lower temperature than the outside air! Also, it's exempt from fuel taxes(unless you fill up at the pump), and burns much cleaner than gasoline(emissions test anyone?)...

This is why my shop will be doing LPG conversions as soon as I can open up...

Happens to me all the time. Before you post highlight your text & copy it to your clipboard.

Anyway, thanks for posting that good description of octane, boost and compresion:ylsuper

Don't you just hate that server busy thing? I'll intentionally get up at like 2:00 at night to try to look shit up and it still says server too busy.
I swear I'd have like 42 more *long* posts if I didn't get that busy server message that wipes my post clean. Not including the 712 "i just want to post something stupid so I can waste bandwidth" posts.

Oh well, what can you do.

It always seems to be the long in depth posts that get killed... I've take to copying the info, and waiting to see.
