The place is called Gaydon. just past Banbury. Once a year they hold an event called "Gaydon Supercar Sunday" at the Heritage Motor Museum (in the UK). I'm always there, along with hundereds of other supercar owners. It's damn good fun, 'cause you get to talk all day with other car nuts. Here's a transcript of a moment I'll remember!

/scene setting: I'm standing nearby, casually making sure all the gawkers are not scuffing or damaging my pride and joy. A father and young Son walk up, and stand back a bit in silence. Son's mouth is gaping open. He looks up to his Dad and says:

Son: Dad, why can't we have a car like that?
Dad: They cost thousands, Son. Hundreds of thousands. Normal people can't afford cars like that.
Son: Can I just sit in it? The door is open!
Dad: Doubt it Son, probably owned by some snobby rich bloke. Remember what the Ferrari man said to you?

CA (piping up in the background): Sure he can sit in it! Take a picture or two!
Dad: But we always get told by people to stay away from the cars...
CA: Well, things of beauty like these should be shared. Tell him to mind his legs getting in.
Dad: Do you know the owner then? Where is he?
CA (smiling knowingly): Oh, the owner won't mind!
Dad (realising): Ohhhhh! It's yours!!! Thanks a million! The Ferrari guy over there wouldn't let us near his car. You Lambo guys are all so friendly though... not like the Ferrari lot...
CA: Lambo's are what the working guy buys when he has good fortune. In my opinion. Ferrari is often owned by posers or those who "inherited wealth".
Dad: When we asked him how much it cost, he said "more than you know" Cheeky sod.
CA: People like that don't deserve cars like these. Stand over there by your Son, I'll take the pictures...!

And with that, I took five pictures, and they left, smiling from ear to ear. The best bit was telling his Son that anyone can have a car like that. If you want it enough, you will get it. Believe in yourself, never say "can't", and it will come. I think he believed me - he ran over to his friend, excitedly pointing at my car saying "look over there, see that? 'm going to have a Lamborghini, one day, just like that. You'll see!"

The greatest thrill is using it to inspire others. I shall miss that aspect almost more than anything else (sob)!

nice post chris!
but i have to add a bit especially the point with ferrari drivers...

on 7th/8th of septembre this year i was at ferrari racing days at nürburgring...
there have been about 1000 ferrari´s and everyone i asked if i can sit in said yes!
even an old f50 owner (think he was 60 or older) let me sit in... he opened the engine bonnet for me.

but yea some people i didn´t ask cause they looked like, you said already, like snobby rich blokes.

lamborghini drivers don´t have that. they are all very polite!

All Lamborghini owners are a nice bunch of car appreciating people. Most people who have the money to buy a nice car go for a Ferrari, having not researched others.

Yes, but the sheer style of the lamborghini really attracts the Hard-Core car owners to it, especially the Diablo 6.0 (well here anyway, I suppose in Europe it could well be different) just my £0.02!
