Re: MAN TGA expedition vehicle

usually when the cab and i believe the engine as well is raised higher is to facillate the driveshaft to the front wheels to make it an all wheel drive truck for extra grip and traction

so the picture u have of the real truck with the raised cab maybe have 6 wheel drive

so if u want to build similar, i suggest raise the engine up the same height as u raised the cab and scratchbiuld the forward drive shafe and axle

This is a nice wip to follow! Finally I can make me some visual idea of how it will look like!

It's like the mammoth of mobil-homes, I like!

Re: MAN TGA expedition vehicle

Thanks for the kind replies....really keeps me going.

I accomplished some more in terms of "body-building" (the side garage doors might not be realized on the real truck).

The basic "box" is almost completed, just missing the front wall actually.

The rear opening was supposed to be a standard hydraulic lift like this one:

But as I had to change the design to a longer overhang in the rear (with less ground clearance and departure angle) it became clear that there would be no chance fitting it. I played around a bit and came up with an idea that can be easily realized. Just look at the pics and you'll know how it works. There are still some parts missing, though.

The interior will, naturally, incorporate the garage as a basic element of the layout. It takes up nearly a third of the interior's length.

The bed and various cabinets will be on top of the garage...

Here you can see it compared with a Volkswagen Samba bus (yeah....that's my surfin' bus. No WIP yet opcorn: ).

Well....you could also look at it this way

I will work on it some more this weekend.

As always, thanks for watching and keep the comments coming.

Cheers
Sebastian

Re: MAN TGA expedition vehicle

Awesome work, I wish I had the paitience and time to build full scratch builds.
Was wondering, where did you get that fork lift? Or did you make it yourself?

Re: MAN TGA expedition vehicle

FYI:

- The ATV is a 1:32scale item, I just can't recall the brand
- The forklift is from Wiking (a company known for 1:87 cars and trucks). I'll try to get more info.

I did some work on the rear ramp / garage door (sorry, pics are a bit blurry):

More later....

Cheers

Re: MAN TGA expedition vehicle

Hi Seb,

the more detailed rear ramp replaces the plastic sheet, where the fork lift is standing on, right?

Isnīt Revell offering such a ramp in a truck parts-pack?

Yeah.....it will replace exactly that part. Italeri offers a ramp similar to that, it's pictured somewhere above. The problem with the kit part is that it mounts too low. That would reduce the departure angle to none
It's not going to be a hard-core offroad motorhome, but it needs some height

Cheers
