Re: '93 Metro Broken Door Handle Lever

My handle cracked today in about the same place. Thought about just swapping out the broken piece from the passenger side but didn't feel like taking both doors apart. Instead I melted the plastic back together with a soldering iron then reinforced it with .032" stainless steel safety wire. The way I used the safety wire was to heat the wire and push it through the plastic, basically sewing it together with a couple loops of wire twisted at the ends. I think it will be sturdier than stock.

Re: '93 Metro Broken Door Handle Lever

Mine broke today too. Junk yard is closed so I super glued it and then used epoxy puddy. I tested it and it's really strong. Next time I am at the yard I will get another one,but for now mine is doing fine with the epoxy.

Re: '93 Metro Broken Door Handle Lever

REMEMBER ! - you can use either side door handle to fix any door handle!

Geo door handles (the part you pull on) are symmetrical. Take the handle out of
the assembly and you will see that that this is true.

Either side can be used to fix either side. The designer was intelligent - only need
a hot metal mold for one handle - use it for both sides!

So all those passenger door handle left at the junk yard because someone's
driver's side broke are yours for the picking!

Not only that, but you can simply swap the part of the handle that breaks from one side of your own car to the other and avoid a trip to the wrecking yard.

Re: '93 Metro Broken Door Handle Lever

Very good point. I saw the hole on the other side, but didn't think to switch it to the useable side. Thanks for the heads up.

Bump. This is too valuable to be this far down the page.
