Getting a "new" one when I am in the USA seems to be an option which becomes more and more "attractive".

The thing just is, that this P10 1.6 SLX is my first car and I'm very fond of it!

I quite understand. The difficulties will be significant however. I'll bet you can get a G20 for a little more than the price of transporting your Primera.

Oh yeah, and SR20DETs are not that hard to come by here.

a used g20

you might just want to get yourself a used p10 g20. there is a difference in the two besides the drive. i know the us has tougher impact standards. foreign p10s do not have bumper reinforcements and i don't know about side. that's one of the reasons why a g20 weighs more than a primera.

i would only try to import a 190vve or a T4 primera. these are things you cannot get in the usa.
