hmmmmm, i arent sure with the engine or the styling. i like the straight 6 configuration, and the RB is an incredible engine. I kind of hope that it doesn get imported to the US. Dont get me wrong on this, but cars that go to the US are often dulled down to suit the US buyers. This better not happen with the GT-R

I don't think cars exported to the USA are dulled down to meet American tastes. Rather it is a mix of manufacturer apprehension over American driving habits and lawsuits, and in the case of Japan national psyche. The Japanese always reserve the best for themselves, even when it comes to rice or sake!

I would not say that the Viper is a car dulled down to meet American tastes!

Some of the dulling down is done to help with crash safety tests and so on. But, since they are designing it from the get go with the US in mind, I don't think they will need to worry about different versions for the US and elsewhere.

If a car dull and boring . . .

I tend to think that if a car that comes to the States is dull and boring compared to its Euro or Japanese counterpart it is do in most part to the manufact.

For example Audi and Mercedes have basically thrown caution to the wind for 2003/4.

Audi's new RS6. . . 4.2L twin turbo AWD 450bhp
Mercedes new S600, CL600 . . . 5.5L twin turbo 493bhp
Mercedes new E55 (476bhp), S55, CL55, SL55 . . . 5.5L supercharged aprox. 493bhp

These are just the most recent example, not mentioning others such as M3, 911, S2000 all cars that perform out of their respective classes when looking at their engine displacments.

my point is that these companies are taking all the stops out because they can. Nissan is not different, neither is Toyota. If they want to do it they will.

Of tree huggers and socialist car makers...

Raven,

I second that, or first it as the case may be!

The RS6 is a great example. There is nothing in the good ole USA, including crash testing, or the EPA that mandates duling down a car. It is purely a figment of the manufacturers reasoning. I believe in the case of the Japanese, it is purposeful intent, as was the case with the Germans until recently. BMW was one of the biggest offenders in the past.

These manufacturers want their countrymen to say that they have the best iron, and that the Americans wouldn't appreciate or couldn't handle their finest steeds. Too some degrees I would say they are correct, but there are many enthusiasts that have been missing out due to the lack of skill or responsibility on the part of many nameless American drivers.

Thankfully, the days of "duling down" are at an end. Too bad it is not because Americans have become better or more responsible drivers. It is mainly because of better cars with ABS, traction controll, and stability control. So much for power in the hands of a few! Luckily for the skilled among us, those that lack a brain usually lack a spine and heart as well. Hopefully these sloths will have their hands so firmly wrapped around a tree while hugging it, they won't have time to interfere with us true enthusiasts.

Well, time to get off my soap box...
