Re: hhr steering by-wire

I wouldn't care if the police could shut off cars that were not pulling over. I like that actually, it would be better then some asshole in a stolen car slamming into the back of you and getting stopped that way.

I'd support it if it were used like in the onstar example where they shut off a stolen car that was in a pursuit. Someone could have been killed if it had gone on longer and their would be a lot of property damage... and I bet whoever's car that was is happy it came back to them in one piece.

However limiting the car's ability to speed is a wrong. There are certain times when speeding is acceptable. What if someone was trying to kill you chasing you in a car they had tampered with so the ODB3 didn't control the car?

Of course it would make movies a lot better... The hero is driving through city at night minding his own business, when he discovers there is a time bomb in his car that is about to blow up. He slams on the gas and tries to get out of the city and abandon his car before it blows up, but discovers that his car with on board diagnostic version 3 is limiting his speed. He will never make it out at this pace. In a last ditch effort he dives out of the vehicle to save himself, but alas his car knows he has left his vehicle and stops right beside him. The time bomb explodes killing the hero and leveling a nearby building killing everyone in it as well.

Re: hhr steering by-wire

All of the electronics and plastic put on cars these days cracks me up. If you cant parallel park, get a bike. If you like to speed have fun with paying the tickets and paying the high insurance rates. If you simply cant drive and run into a bunch of stuff, beware because if you run into me while im in the catalina you might as well consider yourself in the market for a new car.

While people are getting electrical diagnostics done and replacing a bunch of expensive sensors, i will buy a DR. Pepper and a new video game or something.
