speaking of chargers we gotta watch out now, the other day me, maria, and brandon got our first look at the new cop cars that replaced the crown vics, They are Chrger SRT-8s they look like they came out of robocop though, especially with the paint job they have.

Re: SRT8 Owned

You sure they're SRT8's? I can't see a department spending that much on a patrol vehicle.

I know they've tested the normal 5.7L Hemi versions of the Charger, and Magnums, along with the 3.5L V6 versions as well.

Re: SRT8 Owned

It might be the SRT-8.they dropped in price to like 34-35K and thats really not what they cost to build so im sure the departments can get them cheaper. I mean the old Camaro SS was like what 34K and the Trooper station is full of them so why not SRT8s?

They should of gotten the Jeep though.

Re: SRT8 Owned

Fuel consumption, those big Hemi's get terrible fuel milege. I don't think the department would like the extra fuel costs. I mean... the tax payers pay for their gas. Do you want them in 10mpg cars running 91+ octane?

I can see them getting one or two for Sarges and Lt's to drive. But not an entire fleets worth.

Re: SRT8 Owned

I've started to see them pop up around here, just the reguler Hemi's though, not SRT-8's.

I work for one of our county parks and I saw the park police have a brand spankin new Charger cruiser. Seems like a little overkill to patrol park reserves

Re: SRT8 Owned

no im sure they are srt-8's, but depending on the area in miami, they variate from the v6 to the SRT. Around my house they have the 5.7's and around my job the have the SRT-8's. And these are not the Highway patrol, they are the local cops.

My borther has seen some charger cop cars in New Castle, Indiana
but seeing as it's Indiana I'd say that they are V-6

All I have seen thus far is the R/T 5.7L Hemi Charger around here. No V6 or SRT yet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Charger_(LX)

I would bet that they were not SRT-8's bit just the 5.7 hemi. This article has a picture of the police package car and it does look pretty crazy....

Enjoy the read..scroll down a couple paragraphs to get to the police part....

Re: SRT8 Owned

I read a few articles on google about the Charger police package, non of which come with the 6.1, they're all 5.7 Hemi's.

The police packages have to be specially built with heavy duty parts. They only offer the 3.5L and the 5.7L as far as I can tell in the three articles I read, none mention the SRT8.

Re: SRT8 Owned

Just a base Charger R/T will keep up with most everything out there, even with police gear on it. I doubt that any police dept. would fund getting SRT-8's for the dept. I'd imagine the police dept. is paying about $22-23K for run of the mill R/T's. They probably purchased alot of V6 Chargers too.

Of course I could see the Highway Patrol purchasing a few SRT-8's. Seen them running around in Camaro Z28's, and heard of Corvettes being used too. Personally, if I was a cop, I wouldn't wanna be in the vette. Too uncomfortable, and you'd catch hell for anything amiss with the car, especially if you wrecked it in a police chase.

Re: SRT8 Owned

Well remember the SRT-8 does have DOD so that would help keep the gas consumption down but yeah your right, what kinda cop would actually drive it gently and lightly?

Eh, SRT-8 or not its still better to look at then the Intrepid!

Re: SRT8 Owned

The SRT-8 doesn't come with MDS (Multiple Displacement System), only the 5.7L Hemi does. The 5.7's are rated at 17/25mpg, the 6.1's are rated at 14/20mpg.

That's midrange SUV milege, and that's at it's very best. So imagine what the milege would be under usual police driving. The department would go bankrupt keeping the damn thing fueled, let alone a fleet of them.
