Re: Mclaren in Joburg SA

Peter must have a connection to Dawn as I have this quote taken from an earlier email I received about him:

"He loves the F1 but he restores 50's and 60's era Alfas and he has some of the the most beautiful cars you'll ever lay your eyes on."

Good luck in your search. I have just hit send on my note to Peter's friend. Hopefully he will be able to offer some help.

Re: Mclaren in Joburg SA

well i have managed to get hold of his cousin. His cousin will not give me his number but, has taken my contact details. I do hope i hear from him soon.

Peter Manelis lives about 30km from me.

I recall also seeing an actual photo, not a photo copy or a print but an actual photo of a mclaren supposedly based in the area from which Peter Manelis lives. could this be one and the same car i ask my self.

So far my search is looking quite promising.

Re: Mclaren in Joburg SA

Nice to hear that you made contact. I hope that our efforts pay off and the 70,000 expected visitors to the MPH07 show in SA do get a chance to see/experience an F1 because of it. That would make me feel pretty happy even if I can't make it over too.

Re: Mclaren in Joburg SA

If Peter does indeed have the car it has certainly travelled the world as Peloton reported that Peter and the car resided in Laguna Beach California in 2003. Chassis 37 according to the info reported at the time.

Re: Mclaren in Joburg SA

Hello, Peter lives in Alberton in SA. He has a mind blowing collection of cars.Mclaren 037 was purchased from a German who used to ship it to the UK for service, wouldnt let his girlfriend even sit in it.When he went to purchase the car the guy put on special slippers and doctors coat, totally nuts this guy, anyway amongst this germans collection, all silver was a 959, XJR220 etc.Peters cars ALL origionals, some american tanks , some one off specials, lots of latin beauty's though.Dawn is his wife, she collects alfa's , has a huge collection of them, and has been known to buy entire car COLLECTIONS in order to get her hands on an Origional toolkit..!Peter also owned/Built the Trans Am Gale Banks twin turbo which set the land speed record in SA a good few years ago.Back to the Mclaren, yes they Moved to California a few years back to settle down, but decided that in Sunny SA you can actually drive all your cars without 2 tons of legislation and lawsuits.one thing I must say is that he actually Drives, and I mean DRIVES all his cars.Basicly family travels the world buying cars & spares.....mmmm..tough day at the office...Have to go now......Who's the Mclaren nut from SA that wants to go see the car..?

Remembered this funny quote when I found a picture taken of #037 back in 1999:

Caption from the source said: 1999. AUTOHIGHLIGHT'99 Düsseldorf - Königsallee (West)

So then that led me to Google "AUTOHIGHLIGHT" where I found this image of an early Koenigsegg prototype:

And I thought to myself - why does that goofy tent awning look so familiar to me, and then BOOM, it hit me!

Looking closer at the image in that other thread, I can even see the "McLaren" windshield banner now, so #037 it is.
