Re: Thor's Car Progress Thread: '90 TSI AWD project, parts cars, and the Cavy. 56k death!

So Thor came to a decision on the car... shes getting put on hold.

I am moving off campus next year and will be moving to Minneapolis for all year. One car has to go bye bye. After a lot of objective thought, I have kind of decided to keep the Talon. The Cavy is still worth a pretty good chunk of money whereas the Talon is worth like $1800 on a good day, plus the Talon is better on gas (!!!) and cheaper on insurance. There will be a lot of preventative maintainence and fixing going on this summer, and if she can make it a few thousand miles and never break down on me, the Cavy will get sold for rent money so I am not under such a strain over the school year. I am going to leave the exhaust, IM, exhaust mani, 16g, etc, on it, but the cams, ARP's, and other stuff that I have yet to put on will be sold as well. She'll be set at 10 psi and not raced. The only mods I am going to do any more are going to be suspension related (lowering, strut bars, etc), gas mileage related (chalking the supra SMIC and hard pipes up as one of those :P), maintainence related (pocket logger and WB02) or visual like smoked tails, fixing body damage, sound system, etc. She wont see above 4.5k rpms or 70 mph unless I am passing . I think its for the best though. Anyway, just thought I would let ya'll know.

Just give it time. Once your out of school you should have plenty of money to dump into the car.

Re: Thor's Car Progress Thread: '90 TSI AWD project, parts cars, and the Cavy. 56k death!

Well, I got the DSM out of storage yesterday and it felt GREAT to drive it again! I am going to mod it this summer, and I am going to start soon. Due to some shitty money situations I had to dip into the car fund for some new running shoes, but I still have $150 towards DSMlink. I still have a lot to sell, so hopefully I can snag almost all of my parts before too long.

I am heading over to the shop tonight to unload the car (put all my spare parts in it) and take pictures of stuff to sell, then I'll put a gang of it up on Craigslist, tuners, trader, and here. I am also going to switch the rims on the Cavy from the 17's to the steelies so I can clean up the 17's and sell them. Hell there's guy in town with a Cavalier with an unpainted body kit, maybe he wants my lowering shit?

I start work on Tuesday and I'd really like to get all of my "in the closet" parts in the car so all I have to do is button it back up. I am a pretty weary of driving the car on the 16g and cams with no DSMlink, but I need to break in the clutch anyway, so it wont be revved out or beaten on for a while. Hopefully I can sell enough shit soon enough so that when I do get it all back together I have DSMlink on the way. Hopefully my spare parts can carry me through everything on my modlist and partway into the 50 trim, then I think an early birthday present will be in order.

Re: Thor's Car Progress Thread: '90 TSI AWD project, parts cars, and the Cavy. 56k death!

I'd just rather go with the tried and true.

I went out to the shop today and I really got a lot done. I got out there around 12:30 and managed to get the tranny the rest of the way pulled and got the clutch and flywheel off. I was going to put it back on, but I had no locktite for the threads so that will have to happen later. I also found out that the 2100 wasnt a 2100 at all, just a knock off. Oh well, the 2600 is going in now.

I havent started on the cam operation yet, I intended on getting the clutch and flywheel in before I did. I may end up putting in some over time tomorrow, but if I dont work then I think I will go back out to the shop, put the clutch and flywheel in, clean up the tranny, and try to get the alternator, PS pump, and water pump pulley off. I

During this next week I'd like to get the cams in, clutch/flyweel in, 255 in, and get the center diff welded so that next weekend I can get it all back together and hopefully start breaking in the clutch a week from today. With any luck I will be able to afford DSMlink within the next week or so, so that is going to be huge. If the rims sell DSMlink and the injectors will be here shortly, then the fun time comes.

I am going to start work on two projects tomorrow or the next day, I'm doing the "dodge garage" 1g BOV mod with a twist and I am going to rig up a sweet 2 stage boost controller. I'm pretty excited about them, I'll do writeups on those once they get done.

Pics to come once imageshack stops being gay.

Re: Thor's Car Progress Thread: '90 TSI AWD project, parts cars, and the Cavy. 56k death!

Finally some pics. First one is of the shop with shit strewn about.

Clutch Net disk.

There's the flywheel... stocker is ~19 lbs, that guy is like 11 or something. I'm definately pumped about it.

Here's the FP2's. Boy am I excited to feel the difference of these bad boys.

Here I have the tranny out. It was pretty easy, and I did it myself. I just dropped the tranny out the bottom definately never doing it a different way. If I still had the engine hoist I would just do that, but its gone.

I noticed none of the "extra RPM's when letting out the clutch to keep it from stalling" shizz with my streetlite flywheel.

now that I think of it the clutch looks more like an asshole with the way the lines run into the center. What a dirty girl she is.
