Seriously, I don't see whats wrong with an IS300 other than the altezza rice lights... Now I have to go find out what engine it uses...

Yeup, uses the same engine as the NA supra. Meaning that it wouldn't be too hard to rebuild that motor with aftermarket parts, or drop in a Supra turbo motor... It has a LSD standard, it's got a comfy ride... Magazine editors can't get enough of it, because it handles so well. Based off the altezza, and the altezza is a mad drift machine.

That's what I thought too, but I wasn't sure... BTW, people have already done TT jobs on these Lexus 2JZ-GE motors. Anyone seen that video of the Venom viper and 2 RX7s getting dusted on the highway by a TT Lexus? He just barely passed the hennessey before they shut down.

The SC400 that walks the 2 RX7's and the viper (not hennessey btw) did do a 2JZ-GTE motor swap. I forget the site that listed all the modifications done to the car, but the end result was VERY expensive. About 20 grand or so. So yes it is possible, but looking at the IS300 at 30K and needing to drop another 20K just for a new engine? I would rather get a good Z06 for that price.

And the 350Z as far as I know is only available in 287hp form, haven't come across any prepped factory 350Z.

Although I won't bad mouth the IS300 because it isn't truly a bad car, and is quite luxurious for a sports car frame, the only problem is the lack in power.

Supras have always been expensive, the price didn't change at all even after F&F came out.

OK....i'm not a Japanese car fan by any means....as you can see by my cars......but i went to the carshow the other day, and i have to say nothing impressed me more then some of the jap. cars.......the new Z car is a beauty.........oh...and the IS.......for the money i don't think it's worth it...i think if your looking for the most bang for your buck from a jap. car...look to Acura...

The whole idea of the IS300, along with the G20, is it's an affordable luxury sports sedan! There are faster cars, there are better handling cars, there are more luxurious cars, but there are no cars that are more luxurious, faster, and better handling than the IS300 and G20 for the same money.

It's like saying that a Z06 is a better car than an M5, or an AMG S55 because it's faster! Or that a Rolls Royce is better than either because it has a plusher ride.

I'd say the IS300 is only a bit more than a loaded Accord, and is a very pleasant alternative.

BTW, it took top honours in the performance tests in R&T's comparison of sports sedans a few months ago.

I've always thought that the Altezza was a pleasant little sedan with potential to become a great sports sedan. The FR layout and smooth, reliable, proven engine make it easy to get into. and the styling is easy on the eye, if a little benign compared to, say, an M3. True, the taillights are responsible for the key rice craze, and yes, the gauges look like they were designed by the Swiss, but after a few years, I think they'll be as popular amongst real import rodders as the 240SX because they'll be a cheap way to go rear-wheel drive.

Besides, the Altezza is good enough for Keichi Tsuchiya.
