Dont get me wrong, the Malibu was one of the best road vehicles Ive ever owned. I literally was able to hop in my car and drive 400+ miles without leaving the vehicle (Cedar Rapids, IA to Cape Girardeau, MO). I finally stopped because I was about out of fuel. Very comfortable.

However, the maintainance costs were very high (I too was on my 4th battery, my third pair of tires, third brakes, third windshield, second alternator, had clicky turn signals, second UV boots, etc...). And where I was at the point of needing new tires and brakes again. Simply wasnt worth the $3k for a new motor.. that wasn't guranteed to be any better than what I just had.

Chevy didnt burn customers with this, they nuked them.
