Are you planning on painting your interior or are you going to try to match it to your stock interior color?

Re: Winter mod... Found something to kill time with.

You should do another one of your "How To" write ups. I wanna do some gauge modding and molding and I've never heard of epoxy until recently and would like to know what to use the stuff for and how to use it.

Re: Winter mod... Found something to kill time with.

Epoxy is like a 2-part superglue that comes in a syrnge. You have to despense the liquids in equal amounts and then mix them together to make a homogeneous mixture. There are different types per say... ones that take 1 min to cure up to 24hrs. 5min is the average tho and is what i used for my project. When you are bonding plastic to other plastic the 24hr one is the strongest. When I mounted the cups to the wooden pod it worked like a charm. But when i went to glue the pod to the bezel, and i was flexing it the epoxy was actually starting to crack since i used the 5 min multi perpose one which is why i have the fiberglass body filler as a mold for the cups. With normal fiberglassing that is a big no no structural wise. But since this is just a base for the actual fiberglass i didn't give a rats ass... I've been doing alot of reading on this and so far i haven't encounterd any problems with what i am doing. I have to work these next 2 days so i won't be able to get any more progress till like tuesday and weds. But then i leave for seattle on friday till jan 2. I'm hoping to atleast get 2 coats of glass on by then. We'll see...

Re: Winter mod... Found something to kill time with.

Fastforwards here....

I realized tonight that one of the mounting brackets had been busted off somehow, not by me. It the one by the driver side vent. So I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how I am going to make another one, Right now i built like 3 layers of glass up and am letting that harden and going to see if that will do what i need for it to do... Other than that... Just got to sand everything down, spread some body filler and fix any high spots, primer, sand, paint... done ski!

I have no intentions of ever doing another one of these damn things. It is soo labor intensive trying to fix your errors from not knowing what your doing. LOL...I spent probably 2-3 hrs sanding this bitch today before the last coat of resin in those last pics. Tomorrow that gets sanded down to smooth. Gotta fix that mount, and get to the fun parts where its going to look like it should... Only downfall i leave for washington in 2 days now.

... and i still have to do my steering colum cover pod.

Re: Winter mod... Found something to kill time with.

I'm a nit picky person so i have spent alot of time sanding to make sure there are zero high spots in the top layer of resin. I'm at the point where i just need to sand down the area where i made the new little bracket and then sand the entire bezel so the primer adhere's and dosn't have the normal texture. Break out the new body filler i bought... From what i was told its comparable to evercoats low grade filler... lol. I really didn't feel like driving 20 miles to pick up evercoat from a body shop supply store.

I'm off to Seattle washington tomorrow morning till jan 2nd, so finishing this up is going to have to wait till i come back. But so far i am liking what i am seeing.

I didn't want a hole that was going to sit lower than the rest of the gauges, also is going to make my nitrous switches easier to mount.
