Re: Type R motor in a CRX

I don't want to do anything to the engine, we wanted a good unmolested reliable setup. at the very most the engine might see 5psi one day....but that's it.

we mess around with friends for kicks....it's not a timeslip warrior.

I agree, but if you had a complete ITR bottom, i'd just swap in an LS crank FTW.

Well, using an 89mm oem honda crank isn't going to reduce the reliability at all. It just seems like such a waste to not play with an R motor.
If I wanted a good gas friendly daily driver motor, I would've opted for a B16. 5psi? That's equivalent to an 89mm crank swap and some cams. Turboing is going to reduce the life of the motor no matter how tuned it is. To each his own though I guess.

Well, basically I was. An ITR block is the same thing physically as an LS block. The only difference is what's inside of it. I agree, P30's would be better, but if you already have an ITR block, might as well just use the stock ITR pistons since they're already in there. That's what I meant.

Re: Type R motor in a CRX

if turbo takes off the life of an engine then how do you suppose turbo on a b16 is better than on a c5?

if I wanted to pull a block apart and build it I would not have bought the c5 to begin with. if I wanted more whp I would not have bought the c5.

drop in and daily drive.....it's not that hard to understand. period.

slvr1911, if you have any questions about the C5...feel free to message me as my posting in this thread is done.

good luck! if you can afford it, go for it! you won't be disappointed...this opinion coming from somebody who actually owns and daily drives one.

I never said boost the B16. I never wrote that...I think you read too quickly through my thread or something. My point was, if you wanted a motor to just drop in and drive, the $1000 B16 motor would have been a far better candidate than a $4500 R motor. I just think it's a shame that's all. I can't stand to see a stock R motor.

Re: Type R motor in a CRX

I had a b16, LSD tranny, + bolt-ons (beyond I/H/E) that I was already driving. I could have turbo'ed it and been like every other turbo b16. I didn't want to hybrid anything and I didn't want to be like everybody else.

as for my personal projects, there haven't been any updates because it's all collecting dust. which is why our shop recently went by appointment only.

I bought a 96 RHD ITR which needs engine...the following day I picked up the 01 ITR theft recovery. since we were already ordering a full clip for the 01 rebuild, we inquired how much for just another c5+tranny. they gave a little price break so we ordered it and ended up spending a little more getting the traction bar and HASport axels (in addition to all the other HASport stuff)

for all the numerous reasons I have stated in all my replies....i have zero regrets. I suppose you have to experience it to understand it.

FYI: it is the same as a standard b series install. HOWEVER I do not recomend using anything but HASport mounts. the knock offs such as AVID or Arizona Racing which seats the engine a little lower, it is no good for the "header" ....the CTR is 4:1

Re: Type R motor in a CRX

i do see the point with the mounts. my arizona mounts do sit lower than hasport mounts, but i don't think they vibrate as much.
