Also, a bad point of fieros is the way the wires are routed near the battery. The last one i worked on wouldnt run because of burnt wire shielding. I believe the wires im talking about if memory serves me right, wiggled between pullies and all sorts of crap. Rerouting the wires could save you a lot of troubles later on down the road.

Re: 1987 2.8l sputter but not run right

Well I know for a fact that my timing and firing order are correct. Plus out of despiration I sat there and put the order in all 6 different ways lol. But through my works I have not pulled my heads off, however if there is a burnt valve wouldnt that affect my compression? Which it was 92psi in every cylinder give or take 1psi.
And yes I know the wires you are talking about but I could not find a fault in them, I am trying to get a hold of a working wiring harness but its harder than imagined lol.

Right, so since my compression is good... wouldnt that suggest that my valves are not burnt?

It sounds like timing to me. No matter how screwed up everything else is, you shouldnt get any backfiring unless somthing is wrong in the timing and the order of every single element involved, such as spark and the position of each valve during spark.

Maybe its time you took it to a shop andrew. Most shops will diagnose the problem free, or under 100 bucks.
