900 on a stock 85 302 block? More like 450-500. There is only one block that can handle 900hp that Ford made, and that is a Boss 302. The older Mexican blocks can handle a little more than 500, but I would not push 900 through them.

You must have a factory DART block...

The only 302 blocks that I know that can handle 900~1000 are the DART blocks.. which are not made by Ford...

The most powerful 302 Crate engine from Ford tops out at around 450hp. Which is if I remember correctly a stroked 302 which is punched out to a 347..

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?

The mexican blocks and boss blocks are stronger than the 5.0 blocks. How much so I am not sure. For those big power numbers you need Dart/World or a R-302 block IMHO.

R-block is nothing more than a MARINE block, that you can yank out of any old boat with a 5.0L in it, and I have never seen a Marine or "R-block" hit 1000hp anywhere. Dart/World have much more mass than anything from Ford... But that's why you spend the big $$$$ for them compared to a Ford block.

I know of one guy who has a 302ci R-302 block in his turbo mustang and is pushing 1200rwhp.

I hear things like that often,

Honestly, when people say things like that.. I have the following going thru my mind..

What dyno what is tuned on?
Who tuned it?
What turbo/blower is being used?
What injectors?
What fuel pump?
What engine?
What's in the engine? Crank/Rods/Pistons?
What's the compression ratio?
What tranny?
What clutch?

Basically, I want spec's and a dyno sheet, otherwise, it's all hearsay...

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?

I don't need dyno numbers, you can make a 50hp yugo read 1000whp if you wanted

I would perfer 1/4 times or better yet trap speed and weight of the car to make a better call on what kind of power its putting down, but like Silver I am pretty skeptical of claimed hp numbers.

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?

I was refering to Brent from TM.com Tony. I'll try to post a link or something with his combo/dyno sheet for you silver. But he did run 162mph in the 1/4 and had to throttle it twice because he started spinning. I think his car is around 3100lbs.

Basically he has a 302ci R block with I think High Port heads xcelerator intake, f303 (beleive it or not), Eagle 4340 cranks and rods with I beleive JE pistons. Then of course there is the majestic 88mm turbo pushing around 30psi. As far as the tranny goes he is now runing a glide. MF500 pump, Aeromotive 13202 reg, CSU 850 holley... He's making the number.
