Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

Im too lazy to dig it up but if you go to rennlist.com and search LS1 or LS2 swap you will find the guys you need to talk to. I think their company is out of cali. But anyways the install for the LS7 would be the same as the LS1 or 2.

Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

I would say the gain from doing an LS7 over an LS1 isnt worth the amount of money unless you happen to have a free C6 ZO6 sitting in your back yard as a LS1 would only cost 2-3 grand for a brand new with almost the same power.

What about the new LS9 or the current LSX engine? I heard the LS9 engine which is due to come out next year will come at 650-700 HP out of the factory.

With this engine, I wouldent need to do any modding.
Would it be a good idea to just wait until this engine comes out?

Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

i dont know about the ls9 fitting under the hood of a 944, i mean v8 supercharged, the vette engine bay is much bigger, and gm has designed that engine and sc to work under there, porsche designed it for a 2.5l 4cyl.
i'd say f the ls9 and ls7, go with the conversions that are made for the car.
or if ur really good with mechanics, make ur own.

Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

For the price of that engine you could buy a new C6 Corvette. For power to $ your better off to go with a LS1 swap. LS7's were the same way when they came out and even now they sell for 13k new from Jeg's without the computer and other thing's you need for it to run. You can get a running Camaro with the LS1 for 5k or less now.

LS7, LS9, LSwhatever.... Its like saying do you want a Bazooka or a Rocket launcher to kill a ant? Both will get the job done.

Good point, but hey cant argue with having a Supercharged V8 with 650 HP stock. I would not even need to tune the engine it already comes with the power I want.

But i'm worried about the price.

And the transmission and drivetrain mods I would have to get so the car could even be capable of running with the engine. I'm worried about the price...

Thats where you need to spend some serious money. Its no secret the CV's are crap in these cars. No way in hell they are going to handle that kind of power. Think of the size of the tires you are going to need to be able to put SOME of that power down. And then theres the tranny which isnt that weak but it was never intended to handle that kind of power or launches. When you figure those things out let me know because it seems like no one else can.

Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

i'm tihnking tires would have to b somewhere around 12-13 inches in the rear and maybe 7.5 in the front. 600hp in a 944 just doesnt seem like something worth while. it'd b cheaper to find a used 911 turbo

It would just be cheaper to mod the stock engine to 600hp. On rennlist there are tons of guys with 4XXWHP and one or two with 5XXWHP.

Re: RB26DETT in Porsche 944?

Thats actually possible? The problem with my current engine is that it is an NA stock engine, I would consider keeping it if it was the turbo version. But... Yeah...
