Re: Heat Shield

He wasnt really referring to the intake temps here, he meant that by removing the heat shield, you would be allowing more ambient heat to get to your radiator and fans, exposing them to heat and also running your engine temps higher, causing your fans to run longer. Again, just specualations.

Yes, exactly what I meant in my original response, somehow we got thrown on intake temps.

Re: Heat Shield

I know this thread got off topic with the intake stuff but just to make a point about those tests comparing the short ram vs. the CAI. It seems pretty obvious that on a dyno the CAI wouldn't really work the way it's meant to (even if you put a fan right in front of the car like most dyno places do). When the car is driven on the street the air gets forced into the filter seemingly faster exponentially as the car accelerates. It may still spike depending on rpm and/or speed. I've noticed at 5500 rpms I'd feel a slight pull and louder sound.

Anyway, the original question has already been answered when explained that an aftermarket header is made with more heat absorbing materials (ceramic coated or stainless) so a heat shield for the manifold isn't necessary.

Re: Heat Shield

Yes, Ive touched my ceramic coated header before while running..granted, it burnt the shit outta me, but I didnt really feel it before my hand hit it, not much ambient hot air surrounding them. And no, I wasnt purposely touching it :P

Re: Heat Shield

A shorter, fatter intake is better for performance. Now, if you can get cooler air routed to it, you have the best of both worlds. I'd take a shorter, fatter intake tube w/ a velocity stack over a cold air any day. Cold air's are way over-hyped.

Re: Heat Shield

holy crap bambam posted. that's a good point. if you could use a bigger pipe on a short ram and the use like a scoop or velocity stack then you would be doing good. the best of both worlds.

Fully agree with that, thats why I said get a short ram and run some induction tubes from where the CAI filter would be.

Lol...most people don't know I'm in the military. I get on here when I can but generally I spend upto 6 months a year under the ocean in a submarine.
