Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
Meh, My first car was a Mitsubishi GTO TT 280hp at age 16, I would deff go for the TT, Just drive slow, take a good 6 months to get used to it, Now got a 530hp 3000gt which I got at age 18, just depends if you can trust yourself really, look after it, you can still race em daily, I've had no problems over the years..........................................

He is shopping for a 91' and I just bought my 91' TT Stealth for $6,400. Granted, it does need some work but you would have to be insane to pay $10,000 for a 91' Stealth. On the other hand you aren't going to find one for $5,000 either. At least not one in any sort of descent shape. You'd be looking at way high mileage and a laundry list of problems. Anyhow, like eveyone else has said it is only about looks and if you REALLY want that aero package or not. Otherwise they're the same. |

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
my experience was that $10k would get you a very nice 1g TT or a perfect sl. once you start getting into the $6-8k, most had over 120k on the clock. Anything below had ~180k plus but not all were bad cars, some ran very nicely for a 300hp car with almost 200k on the clock.
as for owning one, all i can say is that if i had one when i was 16 or 17, id probably be dead, lol. the argument kindof resembles the motorcycle argument: some say never start at 600cc's cuz you'll die or spend alot fixing your bike, but others say why bother with small cycles when you can just start big and take it easy. my opinion is that you will never know if you are the kind of person that can't control themselves with this kind of car until you are taco'ed around a tree. coming from a truck, the sl will be plenty fast and, if you are a good driver, you will still smoke alot of stuff out there. the sl is a blast to drive and still has good enough manners to calm down and take you home in style at the end of the day. also consider the fact that if you back yourself into a financial corner, you dont wan't to be stuck with bad credit from a young age if you end up biting off more than you can chew. unexpected things will happen with a TT and they will be very expensive, i promise you. insurance was a huge concern for me. i was looking at over $400 a month, even if i paid in advance, to own a TT but i got lucky because my parents put themselves on my insurance as long as im going to college... plus they owed me a graduation present from like a year and a half ago, lol. obviously, this is all just my opinion (except the money part, thats a fact), so you shouldn't take it as gospel but i also think that you should weigh your options objectively. when i was 16 i pretty much got pissed off at anyone that told me that i wasnt ready for a vr4 so dont let that cloud your judgement. so basically, i'm not saying dont get a TT, i'm saying to keep an open mind and don't take advice against what you want as a personal affront because everything everyone says in here is in good spirit.

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
ha, i've seen many nicely priced cars, even someof which teh seller mentioned that if I had any problems with it, he wouldn't mnd helping w/ the payment or take the car back. I've seen MANY great deals under $10K.
Oh, and like Ralliart mentioned above, I won't race it teh first day. I'm just goign to take it easy adn drive as if I still had my f150. Then test it out after I get used to the handling a bit better and all. Trust me, I won't be stupid with it. But I've still seen some really nice cars beign sold for about.. $7000 that have $80-90K miles on it, and several (like 10) pics of different performance parts alone. |

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
LOL i must have mixed your post with planet keeper's cause he mentioned an sl. Anyways, you could have just let me enjoy it a little longer i mean jeez you both posted within like 5 minutes of me. Damn thats what i call a reaction time, to shoot me down
j/p with ya.And on the topic of this thread i would say if you can really control yourself i think you could get a TT. For example if you set a goal and say your not gonna go wide open in ONE gear (just a quick little pull) for a month, bring it up to 100 or so while giving it a fair amount of gas after a few more months, etc. etc., I think you would be able to be safe with a TT. That is IF YOU COULD follow your goal and set boundaries. This would all be done on an clear road of course. I didnt bring my car up to 100 until 5 months after i got it, but again i have good self control. And it helps that i have tons of clear roads about 10 miles from my house. If you are like me then i would say go with a TT but if you are like 95% of the kids i know my age then i would say go N/A.

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
i got my vr4 when i was 22. I consider myself as having extremely good self control. The problem is, i had never driven anything with more than 200hp. The TT and VR-4 have a habit of luling you into a false sense of...mellowness, for lack of a better word. You can drive them around town, shifting at 2500 revs, and never get a sense that its anything beyond a Civic. But, the first time you get cut off by some old fart and downshift to pass them, the turbos spool, the exhaust/motor screams, and 100mph comes way to quick...at 23, i still feel im a little immature for 320hp. I would NEVER give up my VR-4 for anything...but if i had to do it again, i would get an SL. Adequate performance minus the balls-to-the-wall insanity. That, and the fact that their cheaper with less stuff to break.

I drive around shifting at about 2,500 RPM. The second week that I had been driving the car regularly I was headed to work and people weren't going the speed limit. There is a carpool lane that switches to a regular lane. As soon as it did I put my foot to the floor. I didn't even downshift and I was in fifth. It didn't take long for me to look down and realize I was going about 105 MPH. I realize this just as I flyby a Stealth ES. He swooped into the lane right behind me. My exit came up and I got out of the lane and slowed back down to 80 MPH. What seemed like 30 seconds later the ES flew by me. ![]() I agree that you need to be careful with these cars. Had one of these been my first, or even second car I'd have killed myself for sure. Hell, had the GTC been my first or second car I'd be dead. If you get a TT take it easy at first. |

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
When I was 16 I got my first car. It was a stealth rt na (very quick and too fast for my young blood.) I had the car for about a year and thought I was a darn good driver. I was wrong. You can be talented but stupid-immature. It's just an age thing I suppose. 3 years later I got my first tt actually with 30k on it, hell of a deal. Drove down south and picked it up for 2k less than what they were asking, only 13k. By then I had calmed down a little but I still lost my liscense for speeding 100 mph in 55 zones. Anyways, I would start of wit a 91-96 or 97-99 base base models. Thsy are lots of fun to drive I have tests driven a few and you would still feel awesome and look really cool. 10 years later and I am finaly ready to start modding as some of you know. good luck, be safe, don't buy a tt for real cheap thats a pos and have fun bother. jp

Re: 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT TT?
I would still go with the VR-4, But you have been warned, Speed kills, although the VR-4 is better equiped for speed with its AWD AWS and upgraded brakes etc if you aren't use to the car/speed and you are not willing to take time (6months) to get used to the car and take full adavantage of its performance features, then I would stick with an N/A and stick to the speed limit, since it is a waste of time going fast in a car (N/A) that isn't equiped for speed.
