Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
I have been working on the carbs and coil.
Coil nearly finished just need to paint the control box and add some wires. ![]() The carbs I have added some plastic rod to the top for the fuel inlets,I have also sanded the filter flat as when it comes in the model it is ribbed. Also added some metal strips with holes drilled to take home made springs across the filter when it has been painted. Will be making up some AN fittings and hoses to fit the inlets. ![]() ![]() The more I have been looking at the model the more I can see that needs changing. Still learning but enjoying myself along the way. |

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
A bit of an update. I have been waiting on some parts so I have started on the engine.
The model does not come with an alternator so I tried to make one. It’s not too bad I’m not happy with the fan so may do that again. ![]() Then I looked at the pulleys on the real engine the pulleys on the model look wrong so I will start to change them. ![]() ![]() Thank you for looking Last edited by puffyrs; 01-02-2007 at 01:15 PM. |

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Just a small up date.
I have been working on the door panels. On the real car it had extra pockets added to the panels. I made mine from the foil off the top of a pack of butter. I also added a locking button to the top of the panel. ![]() ![]() Still lots to do. |

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Just a small update.
Still working on the engine. Added ribs to the block. Also made a distributor, fan, oil pump, all the pulleys and a metal bracket for the alternator. This is slow work, but some of the parts are quite small and I keep firing them around the room. ![]() ![]() ![]() Keep watching, still having fun. |

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
puffyrs,
fantastic work - a benchmark for the 1/24 Escort if you ask me. Your detail work is top notch, I have 3 of these and intend to do the Rothmans, Bastos & Castrol versions, hope I can do them justice as much as you are here - beatiful stuff, dont worry if its taking an eternity either - it will be worth it in the end Im sure. Just one question, how did you create the pully wheels, turned plastic are they? Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Hi Sean
Thanks for the kind words. All the pulleys are made with plastic rods and sheet plastic. The large ones are cut to size then backed with a piece of plastic sheet and sanded round. I will get a punch and die set one day. You have to remember this is a kit from the 80's and details have moved on alot since then. I think it would have been made better these days. |

About 7 years ago now I used to own a MkII RS2000, boy I wish I had taken some detail pics of the car when I had it, back then I wasnt into modeling as I am now and I have a project in mind to build a production RS2000 from the Revell kit - maybe one day it will come to fruition. In the meantime, keep on going with this Im thoroughly enjoying your work. Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Fantastic work, the detail you're adding is superb, I'm not sure that I'd have the patience. One of the all time great rally cars too!

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Bit of an update.
Still working on the engine. Nearly finished but still lots to do with the carbs. If you have this kit to build the FORD decals for the top of the engine are too big. I’m no computer wizard but it took me about 1 minute to make on Excel. I printed it at work on a laser printer as it can get the detail very small. When the engine is finished they will nearly all be covered but I think it was worth making them. This is also the first time that I have added a wash, I’m quite pleased with the result. ![]() ![]() Still having fun.

Re: WIP the last Rothmans Escort
Been working on the carbs.
Had to make 22 different parts. Have got to cut the silver bar to size and the springs I will start painting the parts now. May remake the springs for the filter. Will do another photo when the carbs are all completed ![]() keep watching |
