Do I assume its the spring-loaded unit beneath the rotor? Either way, please detail what I need to look at and how to check and adjust it if you would be so kind.....I am at work till 7PM, then going home to do it. Thanks!

Just change your cap and rotor and check plug wires.
The cam retard settings requires a good engine capable scanner.
Find a good repair shop with a engine capable scanner and ask them to check/reset your cam retard.

Thanks, my buddy has a snap-on/sonex scanner, Im certain he can check it.....

The Distributor cap did it! Runs like brand new! Learned my lesson about checking even the obvious things.....The "old" cap was a Delco and was only 13 months old with about 3000 miles on it. Thanks all for your help!

Thanks for posting back and letting us know how it went.
But you need to figure out what ate the cap?
Is the wires and plugs good?
How was the cam retart setting?
