You will have to believe me when I say that it only really shows in the photo and that it is only the leading edge of the bonnet (hood) which has some orange peel! I will post some more images following more progress which will hopefully show this to be the case! More images to follow some more progress hopefully after this weekend!

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 RT
A bit more progress.
Some detail painting of engine wiring etc. Very time consuming (approx 3.5hours!) Also painted brake lines and used matt aluminium foil for fuel tank. A bit disappointed with this. It is thicker than the normal chrome foil and is easy to tear. If doing again I would mask and spray. Hindsight is great! ![]() ![]()

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 RT
As the tyres in the kit did not have any white lettering I have had a go at producing my own using a P/E template that I think is meant for F1 cars.
Let me know me what you think and whether I should do all of the tyres. Personally I think the lettering is a bit too large but it seems a shame not to have any.

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 RT
I think the letters are a bit too big also. Maybe in real they look more natural but I think I would forgo the lettering for now and maybe you could add decals at a later time.

A bit more progress.
Quite pleased so far but I think it should maybe sit a little bit lower on the rear and that's what I'm about to attempt! The pictures aren't great but it's dark outside at the moment here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 RT
Wow looks good. My only suggestion would be to paint the chin spoiler flat black. The rest looks great. How did you do the challenger emblem on the front fender? Is it bmf or a photoetch part?

I did think about doing the spoiler flat black, may still change it yet but it would have to be hand painted now because I think it's too fragile to mask off. The Challenger script is BMF very carefully applied over the lettering. To achieve the green body colour in between the letters I carefully brush painted in between the letters after applying the foil and then carefully wiped off the excess to leave the paint only in the low bits.

Re: 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 RT
First off, VERY NICE!
Also, I don't see the orange peel anymore, you were right. Love the detailing! What is Bare metal foil, is it like aluminum foil? And where can you get it? |

Bare Metal Foil is a product that does actually look a bit like aluminium foil. It is a very thin metal foil with an adhesive backing. It can be used for detailing all the metal trim on the car but is especially good for the chrome bits like the window surrounds and chrome strips etc. It conforms to any contour and will show all details through because it is so thin. You start off by applying more than you need to the area to be covered and then carefully trim it with a very sharp blade while making sure you don't apply much pressure to avoid damaging the paintwork (I think they recommend an X-acto No11 blades. The manufacturers (Bare Metal Foil Co, www-Bare-Metal.com) produce a How to Use Bare Metal guide too. It is quite straight forward to use but time consuming so a lot of patience is needed! You should be able to get it from any decent model shop plus I'm sure you can order it on the internet.
